Default Sport Touring on a 03 zx6r

I know this bike is probably the most ill equiped one on the planet to do a long trip with. I really would like an ST'er but am not sure that will be possible this year.

I want to do my first long motorcycle trip this summer. I want to go from PA to TN to go to the Bonnaroo festival. I think it would be a great adventure and get my mind off things for a week.

Have any of you ever done any decent length sport touring on such a focused sport bike? Do these such bikes have decent bag options for holding something like a very small 1 person tent, some clothes, and a bit of food?

Any suggestions for a first trip?

Does an Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000 on a 954RR count? I did a 1000 miles in less then 24 hours last summer, but I tour all the time. Yes, it can be done. You can tour on any bike, although there are modifications that you can do to your bike to make the ride more comfortable.

Most people do two things, #1 get an aftermarket seat if you’re seat isn’t comfortable, #2 raise the clip-ons, HELI-bars are the most popular way.

I say go for it. PA to TN is not that far.

What kind of bags did you use? And does anyone make any type of charging equipment for cell phones and stuff?

I use Nelson-Rigg luggage on the 954RR, great stuff. Saddle bags, tail tote and tank bag, plenty of room.

For charging of electronics on the road, check out my blog if you are interested in making an electric tank bag http://excessivelocity.blogspot.com/...fy-part-2.html

Thanks for the reply! Your website is interesting and so are some of the trips that you did. I think that I can hit the gap on my way down there as well. This whole sport touring thing is taking hold of my imagination I think.

I am very tempted to pick up a triumph sprint st.

1050cc is a sweet bike, and comfortable as hell to sit on. And that sounds like a fun trip...especially through some of the backroads in MD and WV if you're going that way. I used to take the backroads through MD/WV/VA all the time when I used to do the Pittsburgh-to-DC run to visit the g/f. There are some really fun twisty sections, and very few LEOs once you get off the interstate. Sounds like a great trip.

I did over 1200 miles in two days on my 01 gsxr600 and it was not too bad. I would suggest getting a corbin seat or something simular.

I use my 2006 zzr600 wich is basically the same bike. I just am waiting to add Givi cases. For now, I usually strap my back pack to seat.

I have a ride prep list I use when I'm getting ready to take the 'busa out. Maybe it'll help with some ideas.

One of the absolutely biggest things that made the ride comfortable for me were bicycle pants. The first long distance trip I took on the 'busa got pretty uncomfortable a couple of days into the ride. The next one I snagged my bike pants (recommended by someone else) and gave it a shot. Now it's what I wear for any multi-hour trip on the bike.

Preride Checklist

Good luck. It's lots of fun

I did Vivid's 1000 mile in less than 24 trip on a '96 Suzuki RF 600R...Granted its not a Gixxer style, but it humped it across those miles no problem. Vivid's right though, a comfy seat and risers are 2 first mods to making it more comfortable.

You might also wanna look at ST tires, opinions about what to run are as varied as the snowflakes...LOL.

Your bike is the same as the '02 ZX-6R, not the '03.
