Default Planning a cross country trip: 600F4i vs. vfr800

I do alot of different types of riding, but I plan on taking a cross country trip early next spring.
I'm selling my VTR, and I'm trying to decide between a Honda f4i or a honda interceptor.

So far I'm leaning towards the CBR because it's much lighter and has better suspension.
I've sat on both bikes and the idea I'm getting is that with an aftermarket seat and windscreen, the CBR would be just fine for touring. Possibly as good as the VFR, without the extra weight.

Can anyone make an arguement for the VFR? Just trying to get another perspective.

It'd be easier to turn it into an all out sport tourer, due to huge ammoutns of accessories for it, and the luggage racks already on the bike etc, The V4 seems like it'd be better if you got stuck in traffic or just didn't want to shift all the time (more torque lower in the powerband), Single sided swingarms are cooler, the grips are higher and so it'll be nicer on your back...

I just like the VFR though..

PS what type of gas mileage do you get with the superchicken, and how much do you want for it?

The VFR would be much better in my opinion....I owned one and it really is a well balanced bike which masks the weight difference. I would ride both and see which one you like better.

VFR = larger gas tank capacity and hard luggage, also it’s set up for an electrical/heated vest and other gadgets you might need to plug in for sport touring.

Even with then mods, I think you'd need to take your chiropractor along with you driving cross country on a F4i. I think the VFR would be a much better choice.

I ride a VFR and while it certainly is more comfortable than my previous 600rr for long trips it still needs some stuff for REALLY long trips. I'd get bar risers, a corbin seat, hardbags, buell pegs and throttlemeister. I have a ZG sport touring screen and it is useless. It directs the wind right into my helmet actually increasing wind buffet and noise at freeway speeds.

I sat on an f4i and I think the ergos are more comfy stock than the VFR aside from the sucky seat. Better seat, bar risers, maybe lower pegs and a throttlemeister and it would certainly be a capable sport tourer. I don't know how it does fully loaded nor do I know if it sucks for long freeway trips though. There is a guy I think on vfrdiscussion.com that owns both, you could ask there.
