GIVI top case on a crotch rocket?
Well, I love my 954RR for touring and the soft Nelson-Rigg luggage is adequate for long rides, but I really wish I had hard luggage – for only one reason:
There are times when I would like to park my bike and leave my luggage on the bike knowing it’s secured, so I can go and eat, walk around and do touristy things, go hiking. I’m always nervous that when my bike is out of sight, someone could be going though my luggage and stealing my stuff. The tank bag I take with ‘casue it has a shoulder strap but I can’t take all the items of value with me, they won’t all fit in to the tank bag.
I was thinking about it last year but dismissed it, thinking the 954RR would look funny with the GIVI top case, but I'm thinking of maybe getting one now, it's just more practical.
GIVI does make a top case rack for the 954RR (shown below) I would get a smaller top case though.

Yes, they do look funny on a sport bike. That said, with as much touring as you do they would make it a lot better for you.
Two things I would think about.
Do you care what someone might say about your funny looking bag?
It’s my bike, I do what I please, and don’t care what anyone thinks about it as long as I am happy with it. (I get it on my 500 all the time from 600 and up riders, “When are you going to get a real sport bike” I still have my 500, so you see how much I care about what they think.)
How would it affect your balance? I have always wandered what they might do with that much weight that high up.
I say do what makes you happy!

Can you just get a small key-lock and lock the two zippers together so it can't be opened/unzipped ? Cheaper than a givi if that's your main reason.... however I've never tried. When I use my tankbag, I have a long cord cable type lock, and I ran it through my helmet (2 of them when I'm with the GF), jacket (again 2 if I'm with my GF), tankbag zippers (so it cant be unzipped) and through the triple tree so that stuff wasn't going anywhere!

I just got a SW Motec quick release rack for the SVS. Pics of the install Here.
Trying to get the SV up for more long distance duty too. I have the bags and side racks on the FZ1, I think you've seen those already though.
The convenience of the top box in just awesome. It really makes packing easier too because you don't have to situate everything just right -- you can just toss it in the box and go. The SW Motec rack also has a quick release givi adapter plate so when I don't want the box on the only thing left is the silver luggage rack that looks quite nice on the bike.

I was thinking of that, but then it looks like I have something of value there. A knife and 30 seconds later they are in. Or just un-strap the whole bag and take it with when no one is looking. Do I want to carry extra locks and chains and mess with that. My next bike will have hard luggage, so if I get the top case now I will be able to transfer it to the next bike.

Many times I'm just too far from the bike to get to it fast if the alarm goes off, and Only $299.00 I can get a GIVI rack and top box for less then $220.
BTW, I don't care how my bike looks to anyone else. It might be a good conversation piece

Matt, that's cool! What top case do you have on there? Monokey or Monolock? Which model/size?
I think the hardest part will be picking out a case, there is just so many.

hahahaha! sorry I was talking about bikes. Your list of bikes with hardbags that you want. I quoted too much.
The bags I have are 2 E360's and the Big one - E52. the E360's are 40 liters or so and the other one's 52 liters. The pics of the SV there the all black one is the E360 and the one with the silver strip in the middle is the E52.

The bags all have keys. That makes them monokeys I guess? The monolock ones just have a combo lock? I don't know.

Ah, the bikes. They don’t necessarily all come with hard luggage, but I would be installing hard luggage.

"Special quick-release adapter plate enables mounting a standard Givi Monokey or Kappa topcase (E460 Delux, E45 Elegant, etc.) to a SW-MOTECH Alu-Rack toprack."
Your rack only works with the Monokey top cases. Can that rack attach to any bike or is it manuf/model specific?

The rack is model specific. I don't know about the adapter plate. You could probabally customize it to attach to another generic luggage rack but that would take testing and creativity.
