After many years of soft luggage, I bought a E33 top case last year and it was the best investment I ever made. Carried a weeks clothes in it and we rode thru some of the hardest blinding rain I have ever seen in over 300k miles riding. Not a drop of water got into the Givi and not having to mess with rain covers and worry about unlocked luggage was great.
I really don't like how high the case is mounted with the Givi mounts so I used the Suzuki factory luggage rack with some added braces. Function over form is my motto. Here is a pick of my "budget" sport touring bike parked down in the Smoky mountains 600 miles from home on our annual trip to the mountains:
Mounting picks:
Can always remove the case when not travelling, pops right off.

I also like that look better, it’s cleaner looking, the GIVI rack is very noticeable. But I don’t have a choice, that GIVI rack is the only thing that will mount to my 954.

The rack and Givi case shown above are on my 02 GS for which Suzuki made a rack. A few years before that, I made a rack for my 97 GS out of aluminum angle and ss screws and nuts. It is bolted to the passanger grab handle only and can be removed completly by unbolting the handle. It would only take another Givi base plate and add a couple struts to use the Givi case on this bike too. Will get around to it one of these days.
That homemade rack turned out a lot sturdier than I expected. When the 97 was totalled a couple years ago, it landed partly on the rack which bent down a couple inches on one corner. I took off the one side piece, straightened it, and put it back on and rack was as good as new. I bought the bike back after it was totalled for salvage price and fixed it up for a winter/backup bike.
If I bought a bike w/o a suitable low mounted luggage rack, I would make one rather than stick the case up on the Givi perch. One base plate comes with each Givi Monolock case. My homemade rack:

A friend of mine sells GIVI cases and he says that the 954 frame/sub-frame requires the extra support that the GIVI rack provides. It’s designed, tested and approved by GIVI, I wouldn’t want to make a home made rack and find out I damaged something on the bike. Not to mention I couldn't make a rack, I’m not that handy

I am considering some sort of hard trunk for my 2002 R6. My wife never rides with me so i was thinking of buying a spare rear seat and actually mounting a trunk directly to the seat pan, any coments?

friends of mine have often made fun of the givi rack on my SuperHawk, but it's come in handy plenty of times, and I'm glad I have it. Besides, if I really want to, I can angle the rack up in the back to assist in wheelies.
Actually, I'd like to know if I can add side mouted bags to the existing rack with a little extra hardware. Right now I have a large Givi Top Case that I can just barely squeeze two helmets into (lying on their sides) and I have a HUGE tankbag by Teknic (that I can expand to fit a helmet or maybe a midget. I'd like to ditch the huge tankbag in return of some side mounted bags.

Maybe because they are jealous. You can tour on your bike and can easily take everything you want with you

Do you have any pictures of your bike and the GIVI case? I have a friend that rides a superhawk and is looking to get some kind of luggage.
What top case model do you have?
Well. I ordered the Givi monorack and the E360 Monokey topcase two weeks ago. I received the case last week and the rack just two days ago. I should have it installed by this weekend. I’ll post some pictures.

I bought the givi rack from someone on ebay --from madison. So I'm not too sure what model it is, but I'll put up pics with the case on, and with just the rack on. tomorrow. would you like me to pose in any special way?

I just wanted to figure out if your top case was larger then mine.
Mine was installed today but this pic didn't come out too good, too many bikes in the garage.

Pose however you want behind the camera.
Looks like Mike has a Matte black E360.
Anna's looks like an E460 I'd say.
So Anna's is bigger than Mike's.

Mine is a E360 also, same case. Your rack looks way diff. from mine though. I'll take some better pictures over the weekend.

I am gonna get a similar setup for my CBR, but will be getting this case instead:
I am tired of my tailbag taking up the pillion seat.

Sounds interesting, though I'm not sure if the locking mechanism for the seat is designed for that - a case would be getting pushed around by wind, for instance, and the lock is just designed to hold something that has force ON it, not pulling AT it. Does that make sense? Maybe I'm overthinking it. Anyway a light case would likely not be a problem, and it's a pretty ingenious idea either way

I really like your choice, the Givi E350 Flow Monolock Topcase, that’s the one I finally decided on. It’s not as wide as mine and a bit taller, rounder and better looking then mine.
But when I found the silver/black E360 on clearance I decided to snag it. Plus it was a bit bigger too, 40 liters instead of 35. I will probably take the case off the bike and bring it with me in to the motel rooms so I like the idea of the handle.
I was overwhelmed by the large selection of different GIVI cases. They all look really neat.

the guy I bought mine from added the passenger backrest pad. at the time I bought it, i didn't know where to get one besides ebay, wish I could have gotten a color matched one, but this one''s ok. And the setup only cost me $100.
