Talking I learned, I love my FirstGear HT OverPants!

Just got back from a quick two day run to the Talimena Scenic Byway. Runs from Mena AR, to Talihina OK. Left here is was 71 and sunshine. Made it to Queen Wilhelmina State Park, it was cloudy and 58 (with 80 mile an hour winds, well, Ok, almost ). Before we left it was totally fogged in, 15 ft visibility, 51 and starting to drizzle. Me, my HT’s kept me dry as a bone. We decided to stay the night at the lodge there. Next morning as we were leaving, 35 degrees! Still very cloudy and bad fog along the rim so we dropped down off the rim and just found back roads to play on the way home. Found one great road, that was smooth as glass and had some great twistes. I put the Thinsulate thermal liner in my HT's and stayed warm the entire ride home. My buddy froze his… well, he froze.

Will have to go back to the Talimena Scenic Byway again. Looks like a beautiful ride. 54-mile ride, that winds along the top of the Ouachita, Winding Stair, and Rich Mountains.

Oh, yea. Sunny and 71 today. Arkansas weather, you never know!

They are a great overpant. I use them in all kinds of weather conditions when temps are cool to cold (Often here in the Rockies). Have been in downpours with them on, and kept nice and dry in them.

Had a good tour of the OK/AR border last autumn. This probably looks familiar...

I've got a pair of the First Gear Hypertext (a bit cooler up here) and I love them.

Awsome pic.

I just picked up a pair last night. Bad idea to try them on in the store with jeans on. When I got home and tried them on with something underneith with less material they were too big. I was hoping to wear them with jeans but with the pants, liner, and jeans they were really restrictive. Without jeans they are great. Gonna go down one size so they fit more snug without jeans.

One question though, what length did you get? I wear a 30" inseam and I think the standard length is too long. The shop that I got them at is going to get me a short to see how they feel.

When I bought the ST3 I picked up the Ducati H2Out jacket and pants made by Spidi. I rode to Canada this weekend. It was 28 hours of riding, which 24 of were in a soaking rain, and a couple of those 24 hours, were in "Build an Ark" type rain. I was warm and dry in the H2Out stuff. It's expensive by worth it.

Not really looking to start a leather vs textile debate, but does anyone have any first hand knowledge of how well something like the HT Overpants would hold up against asphalt?

I personally have Joe Rocket Ballistic 4.0 jacket with liner and Ballistic 5.0 pants. With the liner in the jacket and wearing jeans (fleece-lined jeans if it's really cold out) underneath, I'm nice and toasty warm underneath! But this brings up another question I've had (now that the weather's getting chilly out). I wear my Joe Rocket gear and I have some Fox Racing Tracker boots (2006 models that I got at the 2005 clearance price... was quite happy about that). This gear all works wonderfully and, with some wool socks over my standard socks, keeps me very warm. I have some TourMaster Polar Tex gloves which just don't quite cut it for my hands. I also have troubles keeping my head warm. I have a pretty big scarf which I wrap around my neck and the bottom of my head, and those stay warm, but my nose and forehead are freeze-dried. Do you all find that a good, heavy ski mask works or have any other suggestions for the head? What about gloves? Alaska Cajun, I'm sure you have some good advice on how to stay warm up there.

I have no idea of how well my textiles will hold up against asphalt from first hand experience. The only times I've ever fallen on my bike have been below 5 mph. While I feel like an idiot for falling at those speeds, I'm very thankful those're the only speeds I've fallen at!

For the hands,i use Olimpia winter gloves coated in snoseal(helps keep the wind out) and heated grips.

For my head,a head sock made with either polar tec or windstopper material.

You do not want a head sock made of fleece,it won't fit under your lid.

I have a Restless Balaclava. Works great. Made out of polartec microfleece .In the front that goes down the neck you have an extra layer wind and waterproof material. Pull it up over my nose and it stays warm.

Glad to hear new enough rocks. I am about to order 1200$ in gear (full leathers, boots, gloves)

Also, textile holds up against asphault like you would against a rhino. I've crashed, HARD, in my textile jacket. it was fully armored, so the armored parts of my body were ok, and the extra layer of clothing helped, but yeah. Hence why i'm moving up to leather. It's great for low speed stunts, and if you know how to fall, (6 years of martial arts tought me how to roll with the slide) you can save them for another day.

Bottom line, I didn't have money for leather, so I got that. It saved my ass. Now, I am getting leather. It's better than nothing (which my friends crash proved).

I can take some pictures if any are interested. OH, and a patch works great to sew up the holes left after a slide.

I've been down wearing textile gear. Here's what I learned.

Higher denier = less likely to rip and tear. My jacket is 300 something I think my pants are 600 or maybe even 1000. The jacket's seams ripped and tore out on the shoulder that took the impact also a quarter size of material and padding ripped out too. Pants were fine. This was at low speeds.
