I've noticed you guys talking about ipods and cd players... how do you get headphones under your helmets, and how does it affect your ability to hear the environment around you?

Alot depends on your helemt my CL 14 HJC it's pretty easy to get the little earphone that go into your ears up there and you can hear pretty well as for outside it all depends on how loud you crank your head phones i keep them so i can hear the music decent but still hear enough around me

that or you can always get a chatter box setup for your helmet which i plan to do when i install Sirius on my bike

Look into Koss "the plug" earphones. About $15-$20 at Walmart and they fit down in your ear canal. They sound pretty good but they definately interfere with hearing everything else.

I only use my ipod when I’m away from civilization and traffic and I only use one of the head phones, so I have one ear available to hear with and one to listen music with.

Lightbulb tunes for the road

I use an Archos jukebox 20 gb for my tunes. It will play all mp3 files as well as hold my regular files. It doubles also as a hard drive for a computer too usb 2.0. As far as head phones I took a pair of cheap over the ear phones from Walmart and cut everything off them but the phones and cord then put some sticky velcro on the phones. I use an Icon helmet that has enough room for them to fit where my ears are in the helmet then run the cord down my jacket to my tank bag where my Archos is so that I can see it and change songs and volume. The phones work great and better than earbuds in my opinion. The velcro holds them in place perfectly, the most I ever have to do is slide my fingers up the side of my head to slightly adjust them or my ear. I can post pics if you like, just let me know.

I have the Chatterbox system to hook it up to, but when I don't wear all of that I just have a small set of ear plug type head phones. I can still hear what is going on around me by just not turning the tunes up so loud.

I find when I ride the Twisties it helps me consintrate better to have some pumping music to go along to.

Lost my MP3 player off the bike on a ride so replaced it with a MD player. Works great.

I have a Sony Mini Disc Player that feeds through my Starcom Intercom. I hear full stereo from the intercom system. Te speakers are mounted in the helmet, however, earbud speakers are available. In the future I want to install an XM SAT radio system on the bike and feed that into the intercom.
