Speed Triple To become a true icon is no easy feat. But from its very first incarnation over a decade ago the Speed Triple assumed just that status, mixing a primal three-cylinder core with sporting ability and an aggressive, stripped-down stance.

Default which year?

do you guys think was/is the best year to buy the spd trip? Also do yall think that triumph will keep producing them, here in the U.S. considering it looks like not many people are buying them. I just like to know, so i can save up fer one before they go extinct.

the newest one is arguably the best
not many people buying them? strange... always one of Triumph's best sellers.

ahh, the newest yr, a couple of cycle gear mags back they complained about the brakes being to squishy, but everything else was spectacular, they fix the prob?

I had been to Polaris motorcycles about a yr n 1/2 ago, and they had to order a couple of triple's, said that not many people seemed that interested, and had none in the shop. Of course, they could've been blowin smoke, but
here in Houston, TX all you see is yami's and gsxr's, generally just jap bikes all over as far as sportbikes are concerned. Harley's flood the streets here, and most of which, sport and cruiser around houston tend to not wear their lids. I'm waitin till i see a harley poser, shave DOT in the back of his head, and ride.

would be interesting if there was a chart that showed the areas in the U.S. that sold more or less of the spd trip, and/or any other bike fer that matter, would be useful in negotiating in certain locations for lower prices.

the brake issues was minor and they sorted it out... always happens "first model year" with almost anything. They had changed to a radial brake config and there were some issues I guess.

ask mrzedexsixargh... he's one of the mods here w/ a new triple.

not sure where you'd find a sales demographic.

I bought myself a black speedy last year. Fantastic bike. The brake issue has been resolved, not without some arm twisting bs'ing and threats, letter writing etc... Anyway, it was the 05's and early 06 bikes. Bad cylinder coating that allowed brake lever to be pulled all the way to the handlebar in some cases. Affected certain vins. Problem solved mid 06. Call dealership for vin.

Btw, just registered. this is my first post. I love this lil banana.

The speed trip is probably the best selling bike behind the 675 right now.

Most dealerships have trouble keeping them on the floor.

I'd say that the 05/06/07 would be HARD to pass up because of the bigger displacement engine, though i am not a fan of the dual exhaust. Easily remedied, though. The wheels on them are sexy as well, though.

And the speed triple was tested against pretty much every other bike in production. It had the sortest stopping distances of any bike currently sold.

So YEAH- the brakes work well. I forget who did the comparison, though. Maybe i'll look it up. But probably not. Sorry.

The newest Speed Triples definitely are great bikes and are the most powerful. I really dig the fork, instrument cluster, and fly screen that you can get for them. Other than that, I think the looks of the older S3's look better. I guess I'm a little biased but collectively I really like the look of the 99-01 S3's the best. Not quite as much horsepower, slightly less torque, still has very good brakes, and if you're on a budget, you can't beat getting into getting into a nice 99-04 S3 for under $5,000 (mine was even much less than that!)

The Speed Triple has been Triumph's best selling bike. Just do some searches on craigslist.org and cycletrader.com and I'm sure you can find some good deals.

Oldskoolfool, you mean like this one. The mickey mouse ear chrome mirrors are gone and replaced with bar ends. I am biased but the years you mentioned have smoother cleaner lines than some of the other years.

Sorry to chime in late... missed this post.

I'll say '05+ Triples are cool. I really like mine. I've always dug '04 & prior Triples, too. They just rock.

Insofar as brakes, mine has that squishy deal, but I just compress the pads & pump the lever up every once in a while. Can't stand to be away from my bike long enough for the 2 hours or whatever the dealer would take to fix it.
