Speed Triple To become a true icon is no easy feat. But from its very first incarnation over a decade ago the Speed Triple assumed just that status, mixing a primal three-cylinder core with sporting ability and an aggressive, stripped-down stance.

Default '06 S3's?

Any word on how well the 05-07 speed triples are doing? Curious about picking one up, I hear great things and not really any downsides. Was curious if it has any quirks or issues that not much light has been shed on?

Any input is appreciated

I haven't ridden one myself, but I've heard nothing but good things about them. They're damn sexy bikes too.

The '06 models are known to have a few quirks. Some people complain about a mushy front brake feel. I haven't heard of it being dangerous, but it's just a really vague feeling, as if the brakes hadn't been bled at all. Some people say the solution is to get the coated pistons out of a D675, and all is well again. I used to have a Speed Triple (though a '97 model) and I loved it, and the 1050s have everything up on the old 885 and 955 models. Compared to your FZ1, it will be less upright (and probably less comfortable) and less peak horsepower, but the midrange will put the FZ to shame. Handling is also supposedly heads and tails above the FZ1, but I can't confirm that, since I haven't ridden a new FZ1 at all. Styling, of course, is entirely subjective.

Otherwise, the suspension is fully adjustable sportbike bits, the Triumph Triple is a very reliable motor, and the brakes are literally top of the heap (one sportbike mag got the best stopping distances they'd ever seen on an '05 S3).

And for '07, Roulette Green is back on the color palette for this year. Badass.

I've got an '06 S3, and I dig it. I'm about 6'2" and it fits pretty well. I don't have any complaints about the front brakes - in fact when it was new I did an impromptu stoppie when I missed a turn and got a little vigorous trying to make the intersection. . .it seems that a lot of the people complaining have the '05 model. Take one for a test ride before you buy and gauge for yourself. Other than that, my only complaint is that the stock mirrors are completely useless.

I rode a Speed Triple and have to say it was one of the most fun bikes I've ever ridden. Tons of power and the noises it makes on overrun are worth the price of admission below

Test riding one tomorrow
I have been hearing it has a interesting sound, and being a 3 cyl. I'm curious to toy around with the midrange. I rarely ever run it to the top on any bike so peak HP never really interested me...

Now if only I can get the fizzy sold

Be VERY CAREFUL...the sound of a Triumph Triple is addicting

I think you'll enjoy the power between 6 and 9K, it's anything like my Tona, it's got some good snap that range...the full HP kicks in around 8500. Enjoy the test ride...let us know what you think!

Well I test rode a '06 S3... Wow, the midrange grunt is very different than my FZ, very happy with that And the sound on decel was very nice as well. Basically looking for a city street bike, so I think it would do me well versus my FZ which needs to spin up to get it's power.

However...

The dang saleman had to show me a '06 Ducati Sport 1000 with a Zard exhaust on it that puts harley's to shame. I didn't have time to test ride it, but now I'm tempted... Never messed with a V-Twin before but I hear it's powerband is all in the lower RPM's so it's pretty instant. That and I'm a sucker for the cafe racer style bikes...

Decisions, decisions....

Honestly, the ergonomic differences between the two are very noticable. Make sure you ride the Ducati before you buy it.

Most definetly, plan to ride it next weekend most likely. It will certainly need bar risers, as its very aggressive in comparison to the Triple.
