I got an iPad 3 tonight. For the price I paid, there wasn't another tablet that would come close to it. I like the Microsoft Surfaces, but I would have had to pay almost double what I did for the iPad.
All in all, this was a pretty awesome weekend. Long ass ride on Saturday, cupcakes for breakfast today, wandered around the neighborhood looking at houses, awesome sushi, bought some stuff at the REI flagship store, got an iPad, etc.
I'm pretty happy with my Nexus 7 tablet, but I've been an Android fan since the N1 phone. Works great for games, news, email. I've got a couple magazines that I'm subscribed to that I read on it (5 dollar year specials ftw) If I want anything more, I've got my laptop. I haven't traveled for work for awhile, but the battery life is great on this thing at max brightness.
Yes, yes they are just gimmicky toys, but I got mine for Xmas, so at least I didn't buy it. The thing works great for my son too. I loaded a bunch of toddler learning games to help him with matching, reading, writing, etc. He freaking loves them, and he's actually getting pretty good at Angry Birds. Plus it's been a great tool for potty training.
I have a cheaper laptop that I bought so I had a computer as my last desktop was circling the drain and I didn't have enough money to build the desktop I wanted. Since I've built my desktop the only thing I do with my laptop is use it to tune Cars/trucks and bikes. I don't want to put up with the bulk while traveling so I just use my phone.
I keep thinking about picking up a smaller windows tablet to cut down on the bulk and I think the touchscreen controls could come in really handy.
So didn't get all the snow shovelling done, but got about halfway through (after 4 hours of shovelling); started in the backyard by the shed. It's bad news when there is 2 feet of snow but you don't sink in when you walk on it because it is so compacted/full of ice. Damn heavy. Going to finish off the rest this upcoming weekend.
Couple crappy pics (until I buy a dslr after the condo sells):
I dug out another 10' or so of path after taking the 2nd picture. It'll be a bit nerve-wracking getting the bike out because the path I've shoveled is about 6" away from the edge of the pool...
Have you taken a look at any of the high end compacts or the mirror less cameras? They might fit your needs more, especially if you don't want to have to buy multiple lenses.
For what she does, it's more than enough. Just surfs the Internet reading blogs, Pinterest, and Facebook. If she needed to do anything else on a regular basis I think we would have gone with a laptop. But, on the rare occasion when she needs to, we have my nice desktop and a backup netbook.
day #4 on Oahu, Day #3 of rain. literally haven't seen the sun since thursday, the day we landed, and judging by the weekly forecast, it will rain nearly continuously until we leave. THEN nothing but sunshine. this fucking blows... but i am going to take surf lessons in the rain today, so hopefully that will be fun. i have a suitcase full of MC gear that will be unused, the road traffic suck, and my plans to rent an enduro and ride the many dirt roads on the island would just be a muddy mess.
the view off our back porch.
anyway, just venting. A shitty march day in HI is better than march day in WI...
what rental bike? im not wasting $150-$200 (a day) to go on a miserable motorcycle ride. plus, i didn't bring any rain gear.
edit; i should add that about 10% of the people here drive 28 mph no matter what the speed limit is and they slow down to 20 when they hit a clearing where you can see the ocean. any travel on the island's few main arteries just turn into a long snaking line behind some asshole who wants you to vacation at his/her pace.
i'm really glad i decided against reserving a bike before coming here, that would be a $50 deposit down the drain.
That blows about the weather, shitty way to spend a vacation. Only thing I'd be worried about with the surf lessons is the rip tides. Not sure how bad they are in Hawaii, but out here in California when the storms come through, the rip tides get bad and they aren't fun.
Woot. Sky broke during the lesson and we had a few hours of Sun. We went stnad up paddle boarding up a river and then back into the ocean. It was awesome, giant turtles in the river, etc. Now we are eating lunch and It's raining again.
and that's what we're doing. after our paddle board lessons today, we scheduled normal surf lessons for wednesday, and we swam in the ocean all afternoon today in the rain. one calm beach and one crazy wave beach. the ones breaking at the the shore ranged from three to eight feet tall. i stayed in the knee deep water when the where huge, for the most part, but the few that i let hit me were crazy. i have never been in waves over 3-4 feet, the energy of these where just amazing. the folks surfing farther out where in massive waves, probably 10+ feet. i am feeling better today just not giving a shit about the rain.
Just wait until summer when the sun doesn't go down until 10-11pm. Let's you get a lot of stuff in after work. I need to start bringing my hiking shoes with me to work because there are like 10 different trails within a short ride from here. I just don't know what I'd do with my steel toe boots and moto gear. Risk leaving them near/locked to the bike? Meh.
I can be in Mexico in about an hour if traffic is decent.
When we stayed in Glacier, it didn't get dark until close to 11, but we were also like 5 miles from the Canadian border.
My god our mail guy fucking lags. Where's my package at you douchebag, that shit got delivered like an hour ago. Really have to stop having stuff sent to work via USPS, at least with UPS or Fedex it gets delivered in the morning and goes to Security.
