Default Help, premature glove rot (Brian!!)

This isn't your average glove thread.

I am in a unique dilemma/predicament, whatever you want to call it. With my Cystic Fibrosis, I sweat salt, ALOT. Alot meaning, I can salt your baked potato after a ride kinda salt (yes it's white on my skin). I have bought 2 pair gloves in under a year. My MotoGP Nitrous gloves have had it, after less than a year. Bought them in like June, and they had a hole in the thumb in September. I have 2 holes in them, after about 4 months wearing them. Currently on Teknic Chicanes. I don't want to spend $200+ on my next pair (wanting Held, or Spidi) and have them destroyed in under a year. So...

What should I do? I know to clean leather gloves, but once a week? Has anyone tried the motoport Kevlar gloves? that has no leather to rot?

Motoport - Cycleport The Motorcycle Supplies Provider

I would also like Brian V to chime in, see what you think? I would like you to even contact your manufacturers about this Brian?

Why babypowder blurr? Wouldn't that just cake up? And you think kangaroo leather would resist the sodium more?

I use leather conditioners, but not inside the glove. I guess I could try lathering up my hands and inserting them into the glove.
The teknic Chicanes are what they are. crap. While they haven't worn a hole yet, the coating on the outside has peeled off (you know that crap plastic feeling coating they put on pleather?), I hate them.

You might want to try one of the samplers from Leather Therapy. Their products are quite well regarded, and I seem to recall seeing a couple of testimonials regarding dealing with salt contamination.

Cheers

it is what you use for say playing pool, bowling lifting wieghts ect to help absorb some sweat. put some on your hands, put it in the glove and give it a go. It should not ball up if you do not use tons of it. just coat your hands lightly.

I would suggest purchasing 2 pair of gloves and washing the pair which is not being worn weekly. The Chicane is a low cost entry level glove. I would suggest something better such as an Alpinestars SP1. This is a great glove and provides real value. It is made well and would stand up to this better than anything else at this price point.

The bottom line is you have to get the salt out of the hide. Rotating two pair will allow you to always have a dry pair to ride in.

This is the best I can come up with now, I will post anything else I can come up with.

Glove liners might help some...but Brian...I can't afford 2 pair of Held's/Spidi! LOL I really don't want a "cheap" pair after owning the Chicanes.

Unless you wanna cut me a buy one get one free deal ;)

Shop around I've found 2 pairs of Alpinestar GP Plus gloves on clearance for cheap. I paid $75 for one pair and $85 for the other.

Alpinestars SP-1 Gloves Black

Look at these, the Alpinestars SP-1. Retail is $120 and we can make you a deal on two pair if you are interested. These are literally light years past the Chicane in every way.

I'm a little wary of any A* gloves after seeing this (I know they aren't SP-1's, they are SM-X Air Carbons).

Crashed Tested Gear Reviews

Like I said, I was interested in Spidi Penta or Held Akira (although it seems Akira is closeout now). I just don't want them to fall apart after 3 months of riding. I think I still want the hi classed gloves I'll just use that Leather therapy stuff Robert Hunter suggested, and some liners. I just won't be able to buy 2 pair.

Look into using some of the chalk climbers use. Test to see how it feels. Just throwing another option.

That's the same thing blurr was thinking of, but he called it baby powder. I think sport talc/chalk might not cake up as much.
