Default MotoGP Leathers Review

Within the last year, I've bought a MotoGP Corkscrew Jacket and MotoGP Leather Pants with knee pucks. I thought I'd post a review here to share my thoughts with anybody who might be able to benefit from it.

Jacket
Jacket Pictures & Info
I had ZERO experience with MotoGP branded gear. I hadn't even touched them as nobody local carried the brand. But I needed a jacket, the price was right, some reviews I read were good, and NewEnough was the vendor, so I knew I could send the jacket back if I wasn't happy with it.

My jacket arrived in a nice MotoGP hanging bag with a good sturdy MotoGP branded hanger. I was really pleased with the quality of the jacket. It was made with a thick cowhide leather (don't know the exact thickness) that is fairly stiff when shipped but loosens up well with wear.

It has CE-approved armor in the shoulders and elbow/forearm area and one of those EVA foam back pads. (I plan to replace this with a CE back armor piece in the future.)

It has YKK Zippers all around. It has a full circumference jacket-to-pant zipper that includes the mating piece if you want to have that sewn into some non-matching pants. This is a nice feature as many of the jackets I looked at did not include the mating piece of the zipper. This allows you some flexibility in what pants you choose to wear rather than "locking you in" to a particular brand/model for a two piece.

It comes with a zip out insulated vest liner. It has no sleeve liners though, and the arms do have perforated panels, so you can tell this in the winter!

It has the standard zippered cuffs with velcro tabs to cinch them up a bit. It also has wide velcro waist tabs to cinch the waist of the jacket up to a more personalized fit.

I've been really pleased with the fit of this jacket. It seems to run just a bit small. So if you think you *might* need the next size up, you probably do.

Pants
Pant Pictures & Info
Several months after I bought my jacket I was in the market for some leather pants. (I finally had the money for leather. I'd been using some textile JR pants.) I hope to do some Track Days in the future, so I needed some leathers with I could zip to my jacket. All the nice ones come with pucks which I don't need currently but who knows, maybe one day....

So I was down between the Teknik Chicane and the MotoGP Apex. (I should point out here that I had this flexibility only because the MotoGP jackets ship with the mating zipper.) They were both in my price range. I've seen the Teknik pants on a few people and they looked good. They reported that they were pleased with the quality and fit. But, I decided to go with the MotoGP so my suit would match.....and I haven't seen anyone else around here with MotoGP leathers!

The quality of the pants is exactly the same as the jacket. I couldn't be happier. They shipped in the nice hanging bag with good sturdy hanger. Thick leather, good zippers, the mating piece of the zipper on the pants was included, but it is only about a 6" zipper in the back, so I'll be getting the mate to the jackets zipper sewn into the pants.

The knee armor is nice and thick but not bulky at all when on the bike. The knee pucks are thick and have a LARGE velcro area so you can place them according to your riding style.

The bottom of the leg has an about 4-6" zipper for access.

The pants have ZERO pockets, but what do you need pockets in leathers for?

Summary
Overall I am very pleased with the quality of MotoGP leather products. I wouldn't hesitate to suggest them to someone who is looking.

I bought the jacket from New Enough and the pants from Motorcycle Closeouts. Both had excellent prices, excellent shipping times, and excellent customer service.

Crash Testing
I've had these less than a year and never (so far) had an opportunity to crash test them. I hope it stays that way, but I do feel MUCH safer on my bike with this gear on.

Nice review man. I have the Apex jacket, and been liking it so far. Bought it because STG had it at a killer price (160 shipped) and I have been using it daily for the last months and no problems at all. I have even taken a little fall on the dirt, rolling over broken glass and the jacket didn't show nothing, only a couple small scratches that are barely noticeable.

I have ridden it in hot weather with high humidity...can't compare to other jackets because this is my first one, but even though I can tolerate the heat very little, it has been fine. I sweat, but once it gets rolling, it's all right. Also I concur on the arms...it can get very chilly when riding in the cold lol.

I am seriously considering getting the MotoGP Corkscrew jacket in blue to go along with the new Exo1000 I just bought. I don't really "need" a new jacket, but I would look cool with the new helmet and I think New Enough has some in closeout for like $125.

nice review, I've been looking at their products lately as I've been wanting another set of leathers.

Yeah I got the corkscrew and apex pants back when they were on closeout. Both are definitely quality. I bought a firstgear jacket afterwards and just didn't like how the armor felt so cheaply placed compared to the MotoGP.

Ditto, on the review. Glad you like them.

natas, I HAD a 1 piece MotoGP Kangaroo suit last summer. Seam quality, fit was excellent. Hotter than a MF compared to my previous full perf cowskin. Though the kanagroo had lots of holes, the diameter was too small plus the roo skin does not as breathe well. Overall I liked the suit, but found a g-great deal on the top of the line A* so I sold the GP. I have heard the leather units are made just as well.
