Default Body Armor

I am trying to decide between the following two pieces or armor to wear underneath my jacket:

Alpinestars Bionic SP Vest: Alpinestars Bionic SP Vest - Read Reviews and Buy at KneeDraggers.com

Icon Field Armor Vest: Icon Field Armor Vest - Read Reviews and Buy at KneeDraggers.com

Any input is much appreciated. Thanks.

You will hate the Icon underneath the jacket

The alpine stars is a tighter fit.... very warm underneath something though.

What sort of jacket are you going to be using armour with?

Well, the Icon is NOT CE rated, while the A* armor is CE Level 2.

You'll hate wearing all that stuff under a jacket.

Consider the following armor:

Joe Rocket Speedmaster back protector aka TPro Forcefield. Rated CE Level 2 armor, it is consistently rated in the top 3 of all back protectors on the market.

Bohn armor - you can get a Bohn back protector with a chest protector that is not very bulky. It is more expensive than the JR/TPro BP.

So you guys think it would be annoying to wear underneath the jacket?

Look into the Velocity Gear Jaugernaut. There is a review of it on webbikeworld.com and from what I've heard, it offers the best protection for the money and is very comparable to all the "high end" protectors as well.

Yeah no good, i'd be surprised if you had any upper body mobility after combining the two.

Quality back protector is the way to go

i've got a bohn CF back protector. Feels good, nice and light... doesn't bother me at all under a jacket.

The straps that go over your shoulders are the only thing I might have concerns about if I were to have to test it the hard way.. they just seem a bit weak to me.

I like it enough to be interesting in buying their protective pants and shirt for this summer. I don't think it's CE rated, but hard impact plastic works for me and will allow me to maintain a 'squidish' apperance in the summer months. Yea yea... flame away.

If you are gonna buy armor, might as well go with the best:

Dainese Gilet Wave 3 Neck - KneeDraggers.com

Also available with armor for your shoulders and elbows as well.

Somebody remind me why it wouldn't be easier to just buy a well designed jacket in the first place (other than the spine protector)???

Cheers

Well the chest and spine protector in conjuction with a good set of leathers would be ideal. Then you get the extra protection in your chest/back/neck while having the built in armor from the leathers for the rest of the body.

The ICON vest is not a bad choice. For your application this is not a bad choice, very affordable as well

Well, I was thinking more along the lines of all the miscellaneous junk that's sold to solve a "problem", that isn't, if you wear a decent jacket. Why bother, when buying a properly designed piece of equipment in the first place makes it unnecessary?

I use impact armor. Its a bit more expensive, but well worth the $ in my opinion. Its custom made for you and molds to your body once your body heats it up a bit. You can get just a BP or a back and chest protector. Its used by a bunch of pros, so you know its been crash tested!
