Riders GearHelmets, gloves, jackets, etc. You need to protect yourself from everything and anything. So what should you buy? Check out what others have to say. Riders Gear Forum sponsored by Sportbike Track Gear
I don't know if this has been asked before, but do dress boots offer any protection? I have some nice Bruno Magli high-cuts, and was wondering if they would serve any purpose if I went down. They obviously aren't super-stiff (nappa leather), but they're stiff-enough to stay up without being worn (don't know if that makes a difference).
And also, would shifting in them start to ruin the toes? That might seem like a dumb question, but I've only used sneakers. And they're sort of $, so I don't want to go out and experiment, haha.
I've never used my bike for anything other than around-town commuting, mostly because I haven't had a license. But I'll have it in about 2 weeks, and will be using my bike on interstates/highways, so I've started to consider getting some gear. I've picked out a leather jacket, but I can't find any good-looking riding boots I can wear around. I wear these around as is, so I figured I'd ask.
i would say no. i have never heard of these boots you, have but apparently they're expensive. that tells me you have at least a few $$$ to spend on some real riding boots. riding boots are designed to limit the movement of your foot in a crash whereas nobody would buy a casual shoe or boot like this because they're not exactly comfortable to walk around in.
do yourself a favor and go buy some REAL riding boots. check out Alpinestars, Sidi, Oxtar, Gaerne, etc.

I have a little to spend, but I'm still trying to get the best deal I can, haha. I can't buy actual racing boots, because I have nowhere to put them once I arrive at my destination. I don't have a tankbag (and wouldn't want to leave $200+ boots in it even if I did), I seldom wear a backpack, and I wouldn't walk around in them.
I was looking for some dual purpose riding/street boots, but all the ones I've come accross are so ugly. I'm sure that comes off as shallow, and I appreciate what they're for, but I still want to like what I'm paying for. They all look like over-designed construction boots.
Stop looking at icon boots then. There are a lot of options for more casual riding boots out there that are quite appealing. Ever stop to think a girl might look at your boots and go those are weird boots. That's the sorta thing that leads you to conversations that attract tire biters. Vanity isn't worth it in the long run. Oh and take the MSF and get your damn license. You're making the rest of us look bad.
Congrats on getting your license. Take an MSF course if you haven't.
Buy motorcycle-specific gear. It's been said before, and I'll say it again. DRESS FOR THE CRASH...............
As stated above, Alpinestars, Sidi, Oxtar, etc. are all good brands of boots.
I just bought a pair of Sidi Strada boots for $220 (new) and I love them. They are not a full-on race boot, but they offer a fair amount of protection for my street riding.
Don't forget helmet, jacket, gloves, also. This is the bare minimum. Many riders also wear pants or a one-piece suit.
Any part of your body that you do not cover with protective gear is at risk for serious injury in the event of a crash, or even a low/no speed drop.
Here's a pic of the Sidi Strada's........

You know those girls that are really excited about your nice bike or car? That's a tire biter. The kinda girl who gets all hot and bothered and wants you to take her for rides or drives. It's always fun to show up in your beater car to pick her up and see her reaction.

By all means, send me a link to the ones that are "quite appealing." I haven't just looked at Icon, I've looked at Joe Rocket, Tourmaster, Teknic, etc.

Now those look pretty good. They're thin-soled and would be somewhat low-profile with jeans, which is what I'm looking for. But would it be wise to walk around in them? Like I said, I can't really change shoes.
If you care about your ankles snapping in half you'd worry less about where to put them when you get to your destination. I like my feet and ankles just the way they are and I never have a problem finding a place to safely stash my boots .

So where do you put them, then?

I just 'stash' mine...on my feet.
As in you wear them to walk around? Isn't that bad for them?

Or you could just stick with the air force ones.........
Burno Magli, Air Force Ones...definitely similar. I can definitely see where the generalization comes from.
hahah dude, i think they are trying to say dont expect fashion statements out of motorcycle gear.
I mean if yo' walkin' up to some hoz, and yo' hustlin them, theyz a' lookin' at yo bootz and thinkin' WTF is this clown doin' tryin ta hustle me mo' money when ya'll wearing them gay ass pediatrician type foot correction shoez
