well, i ended up getting them. i'm loving them right now. i unknowingly bought the goretex version which costs a little more, but i figure hey, gore-tex is a plus.
overall impression from riding around today...
Pros:
-Comfortable to walk around and stand in and ride in
-Look like sneakers, but have ankle and toe-protection
-Velcro straps, so no laces to get caught
-goretex is always a plus (there are non-goretex versions)
-they look like a good pair of sneakers, Jordan-esque with jeans, i've been meaning to pick up a pair of Pumas... so i guess this counts
Cons:
-With balls of the feet on the pegs the upper part of the boot rubs a little bit (this will hopefully will be rectified once they break-in or if i wear something higher than ankle socks), it's not painful; just a tad annoying. i got used to it quickly
-gets a little stuffy (maybe it's the goretex), but then again it's not horrible.
-pricey
-scared to scuff/dirty/ruin them (but isn't that the case with all new shoes?)
initial day of riding consisted of cruising around a few fun turns and sweepers. with rearsets that are high up and backward you may need to wait for them to break-in to be comfortable, or wear socks higher than ankle socks.
if you're looking for a pair of commuter, bike night, chilling boots and your timb's just don't cut it. i would recommend the Puma Flat2 Boots
