Another Suggestion Thread: Icon Jackets
Ok, need some opinions. I have a Icon Alliance SS Battlecry (Blue) Helmet & the Matching Battlecry (Blue) Mesh Jacket but I have been thinking of getting a leather jacket but I'm not too sure what to look for. I thought about The Icon Daytona or Daytona Retro Jacket but there are a few other jackets they have that look good too. Any Suggestions or anything in particular to look for?

^^ i don't "hate" Icon, i just feel that their stuff is way overpriced and focuses too much on style, putting it before protection.

for one their leather jackets have a looser fit and don't even have zippers for a pant attachment. also they have jackets that cost $600 and in the ads for these they emphasize the intricate patterns, not safety features. i've also heard that they put a tag on some of their stuff saying its not a protective garment or something (maybe someone could give the exact wording)
i'm not saying its BAD, just expensive for what it is. i'd rather see someone wearing Icon than nothing, but if you ask me for a recommendation, i would simply say another brand.

I would look into a bunch of different brands and types of jackets before making a decision.
I think they do focus on style and when it comes to jackets, I wouldn't trust one. Most of the places I see jackets for sale, Icon normally has one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest sport jacket you can get in the catalog.
I have tried on various different jackets and have found that on certain "models" if you will, of icon mesh jackets they are so thin I can't imagine they are protective.
That said, I have been wearing Icon Shorty gloves for 2 years and am very happy with the quality and protectiveness of the glove.
I would take a look around first. I have been wearing an Alpinestars T-Stunt jacket for a year and have found it to be very protective. HOWEVER. If I made the choice to buy again I would buy a leather jacket that zips to my pants.
I would strongly advise leather this time around.

That's pretty funny, considering most companies offer a wide range of prices with their jackets. Nothing wrong with style as long as the jackets perform. Like I said, mine protected me at a very HIGH SPEED crash, and it was their TiMax mesh, superduty gloves and superduty 2 boots. I've got one of their leather jackets and it fits really nice and I would trust it in a crash.
My suggestion would be to look at everything and find something that fits well. Everyone's bodies are different, so see what you like.
As for leather, that's a very good suggestion, unless it's a 100 degrees and you're riding in traffic. Mesh does a fine job of protecting and keeping you cool.

Some pics of the aftermath with Icon gear for all of you naysayers.
The jacket had a small tear, considering the speed and the way the accident happened, it held up better then expected. One quarter size road rash on my elbow and that was it. No other part of my body had a scuff. Feet were well protected, etc. If you want to know the details of the accident, just pm me. Don't feel like getting into it on here.

Damn, thats some damage! Looks like it held up pretty good too. Going around & trying on is how I found my first Jacket & Helmet. It fits very good & is comfortable too.
