Default Icon Eternal Saint Mainframe Helmet OR Shoei TZ-R Erratix TC-2

Well I am about due for a new helmet. My Shoei RF-800 has quite a few years on it granted I just started riding late last fall. I have had the helmet for auto crossing/drag racing w/my Z. I purchased the helmet in 2001 so I know it is about time for a new helmet/or past due. Althought the helmet has only been probably been worn 100 or so times! I have never dropped it and it has been stored in the bag when not in use. Oh well it has served its use well and still will serve as a back up helmet.

Recently I have been shopping for new helmets I have narrowed it down to 2 helmets. My fiance has an ICON helmet. We have about the same size heads. I wore it riding yesterday and it was fine, a bit different then my Shoei. I like both, I think i need to try on both helmets that I am looking at. Pros and Cons of each. would be a help. There was a few things that I did like about my Shoei and a few about the ICON that my women has.

If anyone has either of these let me know. The mainframe that I am talking about has just been released. So if anyone may have that or a comparision it would be a help

I think there's no comparison between Icon and Shoei in features, weight, finish, etc. You're right to try each on. I don't know if the TZ-R has the same shell shape as the RF-800. I had an RF-800 as well and Shoei has made a lot of improvements over the years.

Shoei TZR all the way. Best bang for the buck when it comes to Shoei. Same shell as the RF-1000 with less gimmicks.

But that's just my opinion. Never had an Icon before...and probably never will.

I'll go against what mostly everyone will recommend and give a vote for the Icon. I just bought my second Mainframe. I guess the main reasoning for me is that they fit my head whereas the Shoei's don't.....Medium Size and my chin feels like it is hanging way down under the helmet...large and it is too loose..bummer as I really like some of the graphics on the Shoei's. I like how the Icon's have the ear pockets as..well my ears stick out a bit and it makes it easier to get the helmet on and off I wear ear plugs all the time so noise doesn't matter

Anyways Icon serves its purpose for me and let's hope none of us ever have to test out any helmets crash worthiness.

btw the Saint graphics on that helmet look awesome! Notice they say fog free shield ala Scorpion now...hmmm have not seen them for sale(fog free shield) yet. I sure would like to pick one of those up for my Mainframe

Thanks for the input, Im still in search of trying on the TZ-R helmet, my RF-800 is fairly windy inside, I did like the ear pockets on the Icon helmet in case I decide to ride with some headphones or ear plugs, I got to see a mainframe first hand today(different graphics), I actually like it(all the features), I have actually had quite alot of fogging in my RF-800. There is alot less vents on the RF-800. I am sure the technology of either helmet is more advanced then my current helmet. I plan on riding on the highway quite a bit.

Although off topic a friend of mine bought a really nice HJC pricy helmet he really didnt like it in the end. I am very happy with my Shoei but I wanted to give something else a try. So damn it I guess I am back to were I started from. I guess if worse comes to worse I can get another helmet. The prices are about the same for either helmet, I guess it just boils down to comfort, I may were my fiances helmet a few more times to see how I like it for riding it in longer durations.

My Mainframe fogs up pretty quickly but that could be me heavy breathing also lol...I have been told you can control this better by breathing correctly...more down than out....never a problem riding, just at stops sometimes. That's why I'm curious about the Fog Free shield on the new Icon's..wondering where I can get one for my lids

After reading that article I am pretty happy with what I had read. I am pretty set on the ICON helmet. With the data shown it is actually a good helmet. My shoei and the Icon that I had tried on where very similar in fit which is a good thing.
