i'm looking to buy a new set of 1 piece leathers for trackdays as my old ones are...well, old. i was looking at a set of alpinestars mx1's.
i've narrowed it down to all black or red/white/black. is wearing all black leathers stupid in the hot, humid northeast summer?
i think the all-black looks pretty cool, but cool i might not feel in july.
anyone race in all-black?
I ride in all black all the time without problems in the Louisiana heat,
That said, you should wear some compression clothing underneath, 'Under Armor' makes a good set for hot weather. Heat is not a problem under 95*F over that I would avoid riding for too long.

what does compression gear underneath your leathers do? i've seen a few guys at the track wear them, but i thought it was just for wicking sweat away from the body.
i don't know- i think black looks so much better than any other colors, but might get a bit hot when racing. i want to get black, but something tells me that it's a mistake.

Well think of it this way, wearing leathers your going to be hot whether they're black or blue or grey (lets face it 27 pounds of leather is hot no matter what color they are) black just looks better on more bikes than any other color.
The compression clothing makes you cooler by increasing the surface area of your skin through close contact and the sweat you generate. The water in the sweat gives heat a way to get to the clothing, the tightness of it makes sure it has a lot of surface area to sink heat to, the wicking action makes sure that water dose evaporate away thus cooling your body more efficiently.
All that junk and it just makes getting out of your leathers after a long sweaty day at the track a LOT easier.

I've had both all black (A*) and multi-color leathers (Spidi). The black ones definately generate more heat. For me black is good because most of the time the NW is cold and wet. If I were usually too hot I would go for red and white again.

Been pimping straight black all summer here. Joe Rocket speedmaster jacket,Blaster2.0 leather pants and a black and silver helmet. Never was really sweaty just riding around at30mph in local traffic even on those days when it was 100+. I never understood when people said it was 2 hot for leather. Never had a day where my solid black get up made it 2 hot 2 ride.
i'm wondering if you guys wearing black all summer are hotter than someone wearing multi-colored leather but just don't mind being hot because black is much cooler (no pun intended).
i guess i really know the amswer to the question, and that is, black will be hotter. it's good to hear that some of you don't really mind, even some of you were riding in the NE heatwave a few weeks ago.
my intentions are to do a few races and trackdays in the suit- so it's going to be a 1-piece leather suit, much hotter than wearing separate pieces for the street. i still haven't made my mind up yet...
I wear all black leathers from top to bottom, but what I've always wonderered isn't how well-protected I am from the heat, but rather, how safe and visible I am, since I do 95% of my riding at night.
Obviously lighter colors are cooler in the sun. What may not be obvious is that deep colors like red, blue, and green aren't significantly cooler than black. When mesh jackets first came out, someone did a color/temperature test in the sun and determined that yellow and light grey were cooler than black, red, or blue.
At 95 F and 95% humidity, I would imagine that not much helps.

Never out-ride your ability to react (even stop) within the distance you can see (at least on the street).

I can agree with that!
