Default My new gear

Just picked up a pair of Alpinestars SMX Plus and placed an order for an AGV Vortex suit.

Seemed like a good price for the boots so I couldn't help but spoil myself since I want to get everything I need for the track.

Now I'm going to save up for a new helmet. The one in the pic was used for MSF and just for school and short distances. Don't really like using that one for highway speeds.

Don't let anybody give you grief over that AGV suit. I've heard a lot of people talk bad about them, how they are cheap, not well made, etc. etc. That is bull, have they ever tried one out for real? Let me tell you what, I HAVE tried one out for real, and it was one terrible get off. It was only the jacket and not a suit, but I had a lot of broken bones in my body afterwords. The jacket however, did not rip, burst, tear, or burn through at all. It held up awesome and if they hadn't cut it off me, I would still wear it today. I replaced it with an Alpinestars 1pc. suit, but I wouldn't hesitate any day of the week to wear any leather made by AGV. Their stuff is really heavy, but you'll be glad it is when you hit the pavement.

AGV = affordable way to avoid skin grafts

+1

Had a "cheap" agv suit and it was great.

I also had a AGV helmet... that on the other hand... wasn't.

Hope you made a full recovery. Were the broken bones mostly in you're lower body, or upper body? Would you say it was because the jacket didn't have any armor in it, or because the armor wasn't CE approved, or just the way you fell?

Yeah Spektrum, I have an AGV helmet also and don't really like it. It is the X-Vent model. I went to Shoei and love them, my head just doesn't fit AGV helmets I guess.

As for the injuries, I had and still have the same pair of boots in the pic, SMX+'s, only white. However, I was planning on going on a walk with my GF(I was riding over to her house) so I didn't wear them that day. I did have on 10" tall military style leather boots made by Rocky. My ankle and leg (about 4" up from my ankle) both were broken and have screws and/or plates in them, so that goes to show you that just b/c boots are "over the calf" it doesn't mean they will work. The SMX+ boots would have been much better, but it's a chance I took.

As far as upper body, I suffered an "L5 burst", basically my L5 vertebre was shattered. Don't know if a back protector would have prevented that or not. My right shoulder blade was also broken. The jacket only had soft armor, so CE might have prevented that too, but I kinda doubt it really. You can tell by looking at the jacket that I hit really hard and slid a long time on the right shoulder blade area. I was hit by a bike doing approx 120 so really it's a miracle that I can tell you guys about it.

As far as I'm concerned, the jacket did it's job. I have "upgraded" to the 1pc like I mentioned earlier, it has hard armor in it. I did get a mesh jacket also for this summer when it's 100 out and 90% humidity and I'm just riding to hang out with my buds or something. Hard armor in it also.
