I had a 35 mph low-side and slid maybe 15ft into the bike and guard-rail. I slid mostly on my stomach and right side (right hand turn).

Arai Quantum E helmet: No marks at all, I guess it never touched the ground. I must have kept my head up!

Fieldsheer SuperSport Jacket: (1.6mm leather, full CE approved armor, and reinforced stitching, heavy duty jacket). Held up great! Scuffed right forarm, belly across zipper, right chest, right elbow, right shoulder, left forarm, left elbow, with plenty of leather left to burn through. Blown stitch on one of the right side front vent. The jacket held up great! THe leather was scuffed but not weak. The stitching held up great with the one exception, including being ground on hard in the elbows, forarm, and shoulder areas without fraying, tearing, or blowing. I suspect the blown stitch due to initial hard impact on my right side, not a vital area. Armor did its job, no bruises or rash. Will send back for repairs or buy another.

Cortech Insulated Gloves: Held up great. Very slight scuffs on finger tip and bottom of palm. Still useable without replacement.

Jeans over Poly Insulated Undies: Burned through right knee, but just scratched the long johns. Small tear around right cuff, scuffed on left knee, and scuffed right thigh area. No road rash at all! Long johns made it through with only a small scratch in knee area, size of a dime. Need real riding pants, ordered!

Hi-Tech Boots: Left boot appears unscaved. Right boot scuffed very bad on top of the outside tow-box area, but did not burn through. Laces didn't make it. No injury, and boots still wearable. Need riding boots, ordered!

My purpose built riding gear held up great! my street clothes show the differnce in riding gear and street clothes . I suffered a dislocated left shoulder from hitting the guardrail/bike, but was no fault of the gear. Hope this helped someone.

Anyway we can get this thread stickied? Since there really isn't any real crash testing being done on MC gear, this is probably the only way anyone is going to get a good idea on how they hold up.

Helmet Shoei RF1000- Good Saved my life.

Dainese Perforated leather Jacket - Great Didn't have hardly a scratch on it.

Joe Rocket Razor gloves - Good they held up fine except for one small tear.

Was hit by a truck from behind that was going about 50mph , so said the police. I was thrown from the bike and landed on the windshield. I busted the windshield out with my shoulder, the Dainese jacket saved my shoulder from being shattered by the windshield. I then bounced of the truck onto the ground where my head hit. The helmet saved my life. The paramedics thought I was dead when they arrived but after they got me conscious I told them I felt fine. Went to the ER and they said I was fine and only gave me some muscle relaxers for soreness. My gear saved my life, best $800 I ever spent.

Jacket: River Road mesh jacket. Good. Jacket was destroyed both times, but both times I had very minor rash, once on my shoulder (padding slid back) and the other was on the inside of my forearm by me elbow.

Gloves: Tecknic, not sure of model. Decent. Gloves ripped apart fairly quick on the back where there was padding and cloth, received minor injuries on my hands

Gloves: Joe Rocket Razor Good. Gloves are destroyed but limited my hands to very minor burns. Seems seperated at several spots and there are several holes in the gloves, but still only minor injuries.

Helmet HJC CL-14: Good. Didn't take a hard hit to the head either time, helmet came out with scrapes both times.

Both accidents happened at an estimated 60 mph. Bought the same jacket for the 2nd accident, it was cheap and at my local dealer. Wore the same helmet it both accidents since it only had scrapes and no impacts. Will buy new helmet prior to riding, had no riding pants, BIG mistake.

"Custom" 2-piece leathers.

Teknic Lightning jacket with AGV sportrider pants. Attached via 360 zipper. Home sewn zipper job.

Great/Good: The setup lasted 3 getoffs. Once on the street approximately 50-60 mph. Twice on the track, 70 and 90 I'd guess (speedo was tapped over). After the last crash, a pant seam began to unravel.

Great: Tourmaster Carbon Robomax Gloves. Lasted all 3 crashes without failure. Replaced because the palm wore very thin after crash.

Good: Alpinestars SMX-Plus boots. No injuries from crashing, but wish it had better ankle support.

Terrible - Alpinestar S-MX Air Carbon gloves. Badly rashed hands. Full gauntlets gloves ONLY from now on.

Excellent - Shift M1 Fire leather. Nice heavy leather resisted wear-through while sliding down 100+ ft of asphalt and 30 ft of dirt/sand No injury.

Excellent - HJC AC-12 didn' have a mark on it. Evidently it never touched the ground.

Excellent - Icon TiMax textile pants. Despite all of the sliding and rolling the textile did not rub through and showed only a few marks from the incident

Awesome - For $58 the Icon Field Armor for knees/shins is a steal. Saved my right knee without a doubt.

Fair - Icon SuperDuty 2 boots - lots of stitching let go although I do wear the boots occasionally to this day.

To add to fishnride's post. I would not recommend any of the Alpinestar SMX gloves for street riding. They are meant for motocross... in other words dirt riding. Additionally the SMX line of gloves is primarily textile... spend the extra money and get leather. All the major brands make short cuff leather gloves now.

FYI - I have the Alpinestar SMX4 gloves and switched to a Joe Rocket Supermoto leather short cuff glove. There is no difference in breathability and temperature, so spend the extra cash for leather gloves.

Default How about steel pants?

I haven't got any chance to test my gears so far after a year of riding. I'm wearing a pair of Joe Rocket Steel Pants with Icon Field Armor underneath for street riding , and trying to avoid using them for highway riding. Anyone tested them or heard about their stories?

Was broadsided by a woman going 40mph... I was going less than 5.

The impact was mainly on my left leg and I was thrown quite a distance.

HJC AC-11: Held up great, no head injuries
Teknik lightning gloves: Great, no hand injuries, still using them
ICON mesh jacket(the kind escapes me): Great, still using it...
Alpinestars SMX-4 Boots: I can't say enough good things about these boots. They saved my leg and I was actually able to walk after the accident. Had it not been for these boots, I would probably be footless or at least going through rehab right now. The boots were ruined in the accident but they did their job. I'm about to place an order for another pair.
Levi Jeans: Didn't do so hot. No rash though! lol

Tested: doing 45mph before car impact to lowside
Jacket: Icon team merc - Great - no tears and minor stains. this is its second lowside and i'm still using it
Gloves: Alpinestars stella sp-3 leather gauntlet - Good - very very small tear on lower padding. they're probably useable, but will be replaced with same
Helmet: Icon mainframe - not tested - saved my head with no concussion or other problems, so i guess that's good enough for an excellent rating. it will be replaced with same

Cheapo full face helmet I got for $100 new-Great, saved my life.
Regular T shirt covered by carhart vest with a regular non riding jacket over that-sucked.
Jeans-sucked.
Nike basketball type shoes-great, no damage.
Hands-ok, only got some minor cuts from hand going through mirror and/or window glass.

Going 35 mph at most when a guy turned in front of me in an 81 Chevy truck. I was on an 81 Yamaha 250 Exciter. Ended up shattering my left upper arm, tearing the whole right side of my pelvis off, breaking my femur in two very nicely, and dislocating my left wrist. Had some cuts and stuff to, but no broken ribs or bad back at all. Did have a bruised pancreas and some swelling in my abdomen though. Really glad I decided to wear a full face helmet to. I now have a better full face helmet, Joe Rocket jacket with protection in the right areas, Tecnic gloves with hard plastic over the knuckles etc., still need to get riding pants and real boots.
