I wear my boots or I don't ride. I'm one of those people that "things" just happen to and can't afford a "I wrecked doing 20mph and just happened to lose three toes" story.

These worked pretty well when I crashed. The toes feel like steal toed but I don't think they are (I heard those aren't good for riding anyways). I scraped them up pretty good when I crashed a month ago but it's better then my foot. I still need some safe boots.

I wear boots when I ride. If it's just putting around town, I wear a pair of Sketchers boots. If I'm going for a long ride, I put on my pair of Joe Rocket Rhino boots. I value my ankles too much to even think about wearing footwear that exposes them.

I don't understand how proper boots can be considered such an inconvenience that you wouldn't wear them at any point. Good boots are as comfy as any other pair of footwear you own and with the way they're setup with the zippers and velcro they take all of two seconds to put on and take off. When you get to where you're going it's easy to just swap out with a pair of sneakers you've got in your tank bag. Also, there are plenty of great boot selections out there that don't have all the racer colors schemes, you can get great riding boots in straight black that look just fine in a pair of blue jeans.
Just my opinion... my feet are just as important to me as my head.

Riding isn't only about the scratching on a Sunday morning. Sometimes it's about the 400 mile ride on Saturday to get to where you'll be scratching on Sunday morning with a 400 mile ride home that evening.

Those things don't look like they'll protect you any more than a pair of high-top basketball shoes.

actually, its quality leather and armored ankle pads, and replacable velcro toe sliders on the side that you cant see on the pic. i wouldnt have a hole in my ankle if i would have had these on in the interstate spill.

Ditto......remember most falls get offs happen around 35 MPH, pretty close to home too. So wear the best gear you can afford at all times.

They aren't leather. In fact, there isn't any leather in the entire shoe. From Joe Rocket's website:
http://www.joerocket.com/catalog/ite...roducts_id=207
"Atomic" Shoe
Men's Sport Shoe
- Synthetic suede and mesh upper
- Molded ankle guards
- Plastic heel guard
- Removable toe slider
- Gear shift pad
- Low profile high density EVA sole
- Air vents
If they were going to go with a synthetic leather, suede should be the last type they should use. When was the last time you saw any motorcycle gear made out of suede? It doesn't slide very well.
I've never seen these shoes in person (only in pictures), but I'd also question how effective those "ankle guards" would be in a slide.
Anyway, for $80, I'd get a pair of decent riding boots.
