Default Purchasing a 02 RC51

I'm looking to purchase a low mileage RC51 that had been lowsided and repaired. Any suggestions to what to look for and check out. I took it for a short test ride and the bike handled well and the motor had a butt load of torque.

How many miles? 02 RC with 5-10K should run around $6-7K

Service records? How did he break in the engine?

Track/race time? Stunter? Coffee house rider? Talk to the guy and fin dout what kinda riding he did. Check his type of of tire/wear pattern. Ask him about ground clearance in the corner and how well the bike can wheelie. WHat is top speed? You can tell a lot about his style of riding by the answers he gives you.

Best thing is to have a shop check out the bike.

good luck, RC is a great bike

it had been laydown by the original owner and the present owner repaired it. I know he has wheelied the bike because I had rode with him once before but he didn't learn on this bike nor does he wheelie often.

I would jump ship with a salvaged title unless it is going to be a track bike. Even then it would have to be at a good price.

the sounds it makes are so unique to the bike, throaty vtwin on the gas, gear whine off the gas.

Nothing like the throaty sound of throaty vtwin! Now that you have riden one you WILL be getting one....... I found mine on ebay. I live in Ohio and bought it from a company in Dallas TX. Most worrisome purchase I have ever made. Bought it by looking at 20 pictures and taking the guy for his word. It is an 03 RC51 and had 4k miles on it. I picked it up for 7500

Default I am getting ready to sell mine

03 RC - 1500 miles - dealer serviced - tank protector, 42 rear sprocket. Ridden only a few times by adult rider. No stunting. As you can see by the mileage I don't have time to ride it (work, wife, kids). I will take pictures this weekend so if anyone is interested email me for pics. - $7500 (approximately what I owe the bank). I am located in Iowa (52761). mapasha@gmail.com

AHHHHHH where were you in July!!!! Oh yeah.. if you need to have it shipped, I used a company called JCMotors. They were great! You can ship the bike, as is. They only require you to drain the fluids. The come to your location, strap the bike to a pallet and cover it. When it arrives, they take it off the truck, remove it from the pallet and you get to keep the tie down straps (nice ones too) AND the cover! I believe it cost me about $600.00 to have it shipped from Dallas Texas to Mentor (east of Cleveland) Ohio. Arrived in about 11 days.
