Hey guys,
I just want to say that I respect nearly everyone's opinion on this board and would like to hear some more. Although I've been saving up for an older(02-03) 51, the more I've been researching other substitutes the more confused I get.
The RC would be a great all arounder if I ever took it to the track, but most likely the only thing I'll be at a track is a spectator. Being a huge fan of the v-twin, I'm wondering if it's worth the price, weight, and strain on the wrists over the 954. I'm planning on having only one bike thus far and looking to ride as much as possible. Which normally translates to a few miles into work/school, and then the weekend runs on both highways and back-country roads. Am I still crazy to look into the 51, and how do insurance rates compare between the two? I'm not a stunter, and I don't want to be considered one, as to another reason why I like to ride with those that understand the beauty of a twin.
I have an 01 RC51, and am primarily a track rider and am looking to start racing soon. I think that the RC is a great street bike & a horrible track bike (considering it's weight/power/cooling) compared to other inline 4's. I'm looking to dump my rc to get a newer 600cc bike. The rc is a great bike, but it's just dated & runs really hot.
If I were to be a mostly a street rider, then I'd LOVE the rc51, it's got plenty of torque that is useable on the streets, and you don't have to rev the piss out of it to get going like an inline 4cyl. I have never ridden an inline 4 bigger than a 600, so I don't know how they act on the low end, but that's just my opinion about the rc.....flame on guys!
i say....rc. ive ridden inline fours and ill never go back. the rc is a little warm but the sound and feel of the v-twin's power is awesome. and if you like to stay in the twisties you cant get a more stable bike.
RC all the way.. you will not be disappointed unless you are sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the free way in the middle of the burning heat in the summertime and you start to feel you legs burning.... j/k.. I have an 03 RC and would not buy another bike for all the riding I do.. now when I start racing.. is will be a 250 for me all the way... .(Yeah.. newbie to racing 100%)
BTW... firstcherokeekid ... how is your bike coming.. .done anything else to it since the decals?
by next weekend i will have my undertail on. and i just ordered a carbon fiber rear hugger. woo hooo.....looking at getting a slipper clutch but that i have to save a few more pennies for.....!!!!

That is awesome!!! I had to decide between an undertail/fender eliminator or the RS3 exhaust (monitarily speaking).. I went with the Yoshi RS3 exhaust and LOVE it... so I did the unthinkable and cut away my fender, myself... I have to admit though... I moved my plate and everything and I am very happy with the results.... Now further down the road after I get some more of the performance parts installed, I will revisit the fender eliminator packages. Make sure you post pics!
Wait until the first time that 954 super low pegs hit the road/track. Not fun. The 954 is more like a touring sportbike compared to the RC, 1000rr, 600rr. Of course rear sets will help that but it still doesn't have the soul the RC has.

The RC was my 3rd V2 following 2 Ducs . I have no experience with the i4's, but Ican tell you the RC is a great street bike. I was looking at a 05 600rr when I decided on a left over 03 RC. I never really understood the big difference between the two engines until I got into some really tight stuff with a guy on a 1000rr. We were in some tight turns (deals quality) and CBR guy ran in a few in the wrong gear and got a hand full of wet paper bag. But, I just kept her in second and kept rolling along. I am sure the i4s are better/faster/lighter bikes, but until I am WERA licensed (next year hopefully) you can find me on a twin.
What does that mean? I have never hear the term "hand full of wet paper bag."
sorry, I should clarify. We were coming into most of the corners hot. And since it was my 1st time down this road, I was really exploiting the trail braking technique. A few of the corners were tight decreasing radius turns. I couldnt get into gear fast enough, so I just stayed high and applyed a lot of roll-on. But, CBR guy didnt have that luxury. When we came into those all-too-tight corners, the CBR seem stuck in a bowl of soggy corn flakes. (better? )
I will explain:
You know, just like the old divorced woman with the kids that you shouldnt have picked up from the bar that night. So easy to get in too fast, and just when it gets good and tight, everything turns into "soggy corn flakes." Feels like phukin a jar of mayonaise.
So, i4s are like rugged divorced chicks. Maybe? Hell, how would I know? I have never been on one...an i4 that is.
