2nd Question... with RC's do you need a special oil - other than what you'd run in an inline 4?

Been riding 36 years, have never, ever used a motorcycle specific oil. I use FRAM filters most of the time or STP. I use Rotella 15W40 most of the time or Mobil 1 15W50. But I have put just about anything in the mills. I have never had an engine or tranny problems. Ran my 94 FZR to 42000 miles, until some cager, cracked me up last Wednesday. I had just finished a 2800 mile tour with Vivid1 of New England. Sport rider had an excellent article on oils about a year ago, their conclusion no big difference between car and motorcycle oil. And remember none of the bike manufacturers make oil, it's all second branded stuff, made but the cheapest provider. So, that Honda or Yamalube, isn't going to be the greatest or most consistent.

mobil 1 full synthetic auto. One of the best oils made by any measure of concern motorcycle or otherwise. Sportrider did a great oil study a few years ago in oils and ran tests, very informative. But really chances are you like me are replacing your oil some where around every 2k miles and as such the great oil mystery shouldn't concern you much and should likely keep using what you have.

I see Rick and I share our reading material.
But let me correct you rick that SR did find some auto oils compare well with motorcycle spec stuff, generaly the full syn stuff, but only one was better than almost all in every measure and test,Mobil 1 fullsyn auto

just use Mobile 1 or Castrole Synth//every thing else is very over rated and over priced//just do regular oil changes 2-3000 miles and all will be grand

I figure I'd link you to this:

Car oil during break in ? Yes or No ?

Car oil is fine to use, provided that it does not say " Energy Conserving " on the API label on the back of the container.

ENJOY !
