Default my take

Hey wassup guys. My first post.

I just bought a 00' rc 2 months ago. Before that I had a cbr f2 and a F4i. I got the f2 back in 91. So Ive been riding for a little while. Ive been seeing some post on various web sites about "Why the rc51" . I guess I'll give my take on it.

The down side.
Rc51's are heavy, run hot, not as fast as 4's of the same size, and have poor gas mileage.

This is why I bought mine (not in any particular order)
1. Looks - Looks awesome. Hasn't changed in 5 years. a 00 looks just as good as a 05.

2. Respected - Has alot of respect in the racing community. Its a rareity to see squids on Rc51's acting stupid. Because of its weight, not a good stunt bike. But I've seen people wheelie on it. But overall not the bike of choice to stunt. So less people associating Rc's with stupidity. Aslo the Rc's only come in 1000 cc's. So if you see one you know its a liter bike.
Also Rc51 riders tend to be older. And with age comes maturity and responsiblility (normally). Im done with my stunting days. It was time to move on.

I think the respect of a bike is important - probably why we all aren't riding Katana's.

3. Sound - After riding 4's for a while, and with all my friends with 4's. Gets kinda boring. I remeber a while back when my buddies and I were riding on the highway, and we came up on a Rc51 with pipes, and I was in awe of the sound it was making. I was thinking "Now thats a bike!" It was like the difference of a roar of a bear and a roar of a cheetah.

4. Insurance - Not too much people steal Rc51's. Kids dont like it because its not a good stunt bike. Less insurance.

Gsxr's, R1's, R'6's, Cbr's ... all are awesome beautifull bikes, but....

Aloha

I don't know how much that applies to the average rider but it's true. In fact when you hear about "big bang" engines in MotoGP it's because they have modified the firing order on the 4's to behave more like a twin. It was one of the changes Rossi made when he switched to Yamaha.

If you have any questions or concerns, PM me

You start out motorcycling with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

Some people are like slinkies; they're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Yeah.. stick with the 2002+. You should take a look at buying one here in the States. I bought my from a dealership in Dallas and had it shipped to me here in Ohio for 600 bucks. It would be well worth it for you to pick one up on Ebay or something and have it shipped to you. The dealer I bought mine from was actually selling it on Ebay, that is how I found it. There are quite a few up there now for around 6000.
