I know that I am clueless but why the tape? (god I hate letting my ignorance show) IS this part of the rules for trackdays or does it serve another purpose? IF you answered this and I missed it I'm sorry!!

Nice pics! Makes it look easy not that it isnt Sure scared me the first time. Murf99 is right on with the engine Ice it is actual more slippery than regular coolent just easer to clean up. Engine ice also has a lower heat coeffecent so it doesnt really cool as well- it is OK for the wenter but you really should get rid of it by next summer.

The track we have run at did not require anything for the coolant cap or brake resevoirs. Now for motard it is different. Those we have to safety wire or zip tie. What we did for the YZ80 (which is liquid cooled) is drill through the res. cap and safety wire similar to the drain plug on the R6. Then we just wrap a zip tie around the front brake master cylinder and snug it down.
But we are also required to have catch cans for motard too. Just double check your track/school safety requirements to be sure.
Just a few helpful notes from someone who safety wires for a living.
The wire should be installed around the bolthead (not over the top) and secured so it will not let the bolt loosen. A neutral safety wire will let the bolt wiggle back and forth and eventually fail.
The wire should be tight after instalation to prevent failure from rubbing or vibration.
6-8 twists per inch is the standard for .032". Too many twists will overstress the wire and fail.
I've also seen track rules that allow you to use a worm clamp around the oil filter and wire the clamp to secure the filter. I don't see how that will prevent the filter from still spinning in the clamp. I like the filters like Blndebmbr has, One that lets you secure the filter itself.

No, you have to tape up your headlights and tail lights... It's so in the event of a crash you don't leave broken glass chunklets on the track.
I was also told, at one point during Tech Inspection, that it was to prevent reflections that could proove distracting to other riders... Goofy, but...
Good stuff. Two things came to mind though:
1) The best way to lube your chain and make sure most of the lube stays put, is to apply the chain lube to a warm chain and then park it. I drench my chain and get virtually NO flyoff this way (I use Chain Wax also).
2) If you get your leather wet to "break it in" check with the manufacturer as to how they recomend you condition it afterward. Remember it IS animal flesh and it breaks down over time and loses it resistance to tearing. Getting your suit wet and not drying and conditioning it properly accelerates this process.
