That leaves the young lady who makes 80K.
If my math is right (big if) that puts her roughly in the 20% bracket for federal taxes. Not bad.
Then comes the question: Why doesn't she have insurance? It seems as if she could surely afford it going by the limited info given.
I am not covered by my employer so I had to go outside and buy my own. I have a nice PPO with dental for $86 p/month.
86 x 12 = 1032 < 2000. By my calculations, and going by the picture of that pretty young lady, if she is fairly healthy she could get a decent plan, avoid the tax, and pocket $968 a year.
Oh, I am not going to shed a tear for the couple making $1.5 mil.
...but seriously, someone check my math.

He should then either look into getting a plan for his people or get on the public plan and save a portion of the 40K.
By the way with 10 employees, and going by the pic he owns some kind of market, what the hell is he paying his checkout girls?
$25 p/hr for a bag boy? I call shenanigans.

Mostly the agenda includes poking fun at those whom display characteristics of class envy. If there is time at the end of the meetings, there is usually a fun activity or game. Last week it was a relay race with a stack of welfare checks. Good times. Good times.

On a serious note: Where is that market? I could use a $25 p/hr part time job bagging groceries. I don't even need health benefits.

I'd be making more than I do now and probably not paying any more in rent there in New York than I do for my mortgage here in Seattle.

If this stuff passes, chances are we will figure it out and be better off for it. I'm paying $450/ month to cover my family with really crappy catastrophic insurance, since my wife and I are not as young as the insurance company would like. It's a big ol' tax. At the rate things are going this year, I'll pay more in health insurance premiums than I will in federal income tax. 2009 is looking to be a really, really crappy year for me, but this is absurd.

The question should go one step further and ask "How badly will Obama health and cap & tax exacerbate the unemployment rate that has already climbed from 8% to 10% in the few months since Obama stimulus got passed?"

It won't. It will remove a barrier to entrepreneurship.

Everyone pays about $1,000 a month for family coverage (if they are working).
I have no problems with the government requiring all businesses offer health insurance to employees and for those who make a very low wage, subsidize a large portion of the premium off the backs of others in that pool.
Work as long as you can to keep coverage and then go on the government programs when you retire.
Something happens along the way? Disability & SS.
There are much better ways of fixing the small problem of a fraction of the people in this country without healthcare than tossing the entire system.
