Politics & ReligionWell Since every damn forum has one. Might as well leave it out there. This place is loosely moderated and should not be entered if you're weak of heart.
Afghanistan is were we should have been all the time.
Bingo...
...except for the entire thread of pontification about "the boys coming home" except that they aren't.
Just saying.

Thought for the day: There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.
I walked up to the counter to checkout with my diet Coke. Smiled and told the Hispanic lady behind the counter that I used to work in that very spot 32 years ago. There was a pause and with a very serious face she said, "I don't think they are hiring."
After all the places I've been in those years and things I've accomplished from those humble beginnings, I don't recall ever laughing that hard.
Took my Coke and got in the TT and went on to the other landmarks in my life but will never forget the laugh.
Nice.
It's real creepy, in some ways, to "go home".
When my Mom got the cancer that would (take two months to) kill her, we closed our business in SS, rented the house out, and moved back to MD to be there. I got a job - it was easier to work than to stay at the house and wait...
The barbershop where I got my hair cut in the 50s is still there, and is run by the kids and grandkids of the same Greek guy that cut my hair.
I guess there's comfort available there, but I got out of MD when I was 20, and have never wanted to return.
Well, except for the Blue Crabs.

Funny you should say that. I recently went on a 'reminiscing' road trip by myself back to my childhood town. San Antonio. When I was 19 there I worked at a convenience store across the street from the apartments where I lived with my girlfriend (which later became my wife when I went into the Air Force). I recalling making about $2.15/hr.
It had been 32 years since I'd been in that store but it looked about the same. I walked around and looked at the cooler I used to stock and the rows of junk food, etc. A very strange feeling.

It's extremely creepy when you haven't been there for a very long time and there's nothing left to tie you to your childhood. No relatives or friends down there.
When you pass 50 you wonder if it was even YOU that was living a life there when it's all you knew about the world as a child.
I could never live anywhere else after living in Colorado.
WE NEED TO DEVELOP A TIME MACHINE AND GO BACK AND GET THEM BEFORE THEY BECAME TERRORISTS!!!
