Obama Hates Gays
Seriously, are there really people like this out there? Who believes what any politician says at face value? Someone on this forum said something akin to "taking Ben Bernanke's word for it" a while back...knock me over with a feather.
My Way News - Obama fends off criticism from gay supporters
"When a president tells you he's going to be different, you believe him," said John Aravosis, a Washington-based gay activist. "It's not that he didn't follow through on his promises, he stabbed us in the back."

He does not hate them, he just used them to get what he wanted.
Just like he used others....in time they will all figure out what gays already know.
That they have been duped.

And like we have said since the beginning, CHANGE!
Then we lol'ed at the absuridity.
Ya see, change for the sake of change is the kind of advertising I'd expect only works on the 18-24 crowd when you are trying to entice their stoned asses to drive to Taco Bell.
Wow, I was wrong.
That shit really does work!!

When Obama said change to the homosexual community he just meant he was going to give it to them in the butt a different way than they were used to.

What exactly do gays want?
I think government should recognize same sex couples. And if there's any benefit to being married (and that's not much in the eyes of the government), they should get that.
But the problem seems to stem from the fact that states regulate marriage via licenses and legal records.
So if there's a substantial benefit (say partner health insurance) for one person to ADD a person to their insurance plan, why would it stop with just two people? Those two don't have any way to prove they are a couple. So why not take in others that you 'love'? Like relatives or if you're involved in more open relationships?
It gets legally ugly in a hurry.
What if two hetero guys that are roommates want to use the system to get insurance at a lower rate? You know if something can be had for less it's human nature to take advantage of it.
I'm sure there's a valid list of things a real same sex couple need to have that married couples enjoy now. It sounds like Obama knows that too. And they should have these equal rights. How to administer it when it puts the Feds at odds with the States is where the problem lies.
Now, that being said, there's a certain segment of the gay community that simply wants recognition of their lifestyle by everyone. And won't be happy until they gain that acceptance from people who will never embrace it. These militant in-your-face types are just looking for a fight. Which fuels hatred and discrimination.
I'm sure many gay couples could marry and live happily ever after. But why they would want to go though divorce, property battles, and all the BS that comes with a failed one, is beyond me.
Seems to me the trend of the 80's and 90's of the modern man was to get away from marriage completely. And all the baggage that comes with government knowing you're a couple. Maybe that's just the people who think government is a burden and not a benefit?

Seems to me he's just doing what he said he would do. He never campaigned on a platform which included gay marriage. He specifically said he didn't advocate gay marriage, just civil unions of some kind. It's a tempest in a teapot, but it got wingnuts all fired up for a while.

Nah, they just want to point out that their losing candidate didn't even pay anyone lip service. They really wish the status quo would continue unabated. And now they want to act smug, anything to forget about their landslide election losses.

There are a great many laws, federal and state, that hinge on one's marital status. That shouldn't be so, but it is. The right answer would be to get government out of the marriage business entirely, to change ALL those laws to hinge instead on a contractual legal union that any consenting adults (two or more) could enter into voluntarily, and leave actual marriage to people's private beliefs.
Given that this is not going to happen, not any time soon, anyway, the principles of equal treatment before the law would dictate that gay couples be allowed access to the same legal status as straight couples, and that the Constitution's instructions that states must give full faith and credit to the acts and records of other states be enforced.
Legal discrimination is a moral wrong.
