I've said all along that bush was OBL and al Queda's ultimate wet dream. With bush doing the deciding by invoking the crusades, the Islamic extremists suspended recruiting, because we did it for them. Obama will succeed against the BGs because they cannot demonize him, at least not yet. Obama has the potential to repair our image and standing worldwide. I hope he succeeds.
If America is no longer seen as the universal bad guy - the mother of all rogue states - al Queda will have no legitimate reason to attack us.

At what point did Bush invoke these crusades? Please show me something before 9-11.
Obama will not be able to kill them with kindness either. That is head in the sand- wishful thinking. It does not coincide with their desire for radical Islam to kill every non-Islamic ideal, and every Jew, Christian, etc... Their hate for us runs too deep to pretend that Obama almighty can reverse their views of us.
We would be fools to sleep with both eyes closed ever again.

dumb'ya hadn't been in office for very long prior to 9/11. The voices in his head, aka Uncle Dick, was already telling him to invade Iraq, although 9/11 gave him the political cover to do it.
He didn't make any pronouncements, probably because he was too busy trying to figure out which way the words go in children's books.

Exactly...he was in office for what 6-7 months or something before 9-11? I'm still waiting for the call for religious war propoganda as Dave B says happened prior to 911
I am very excited to learn more about your inside knowledge of conversations between the President and VP prior to 9-11 also. Please, tell me more..did they have you on 3-way?..and might I borrow the crystal ball you have or get the formula to the crack you are smoking?
At least the children's book jab isn't predictable or anything. Fucking weak.

It was actually post 9/11. The problem being is that Muslims have a real issue with "crusades" historically mind you.
Europe cringes at Bush 'crusade' against terrorists | csmonitor.com
Quote:
On Sunday, Bush warned Americans that "this crusade, this war on terrorism, is going to take awhile." He and other US officials have said that renegade Islamic fundamentalist Osama bin Laden is the most likely suspect in the attacks.
His use of the word "crusade," said Soheib Bensheikh, Grand Mufti of the mosque in Marseille, France, "was most unfortunate", "It recalled the barbarous and unjust military operations against the Muslim world," by Christian knights, who launched repeated attempts to capture Jerusalem over the course of several hundred years.

My chrystal ball is actually plastic. There were reports coming out regarding Iraq invasion plans having begun before dumb'ya's inauguration. He was really wanting to take it to Sadam, no matter what. I will have to see if I can find a timeline somewhere.
I am glad a wingnut apologist like you can admit the children's book jab is original. I am glad you liked it. If you were paying attention all along, you wouldn't need me to look some of this stuff up.

In other words....you (and Dave b) are full of shit, so I must be a "wingnut apologist". Makes perfect sense. Again, at least I couldn't see that card coming from a mile away.
Honestly, I'm disappointed that Bush wasn't brought up as being a douche until post #16. Hopefully you'll be getting weaned from your anti-bush rhetoric pacifier real soon so we can move on.

I am more than happy to move along from the worst idiot in the White House for generations. dumb'ya didn't invoke the Crusade until after 9/11. This is true. He came into office with a notion to attack Iraq. This is also true. He used 9/11 in an extremely opportunistic and cynical manner. This is true as well.
Got a problem with it? Then you are a wingnut apologist who isn't paying attention. Crawl back under your bed and hold your head, please.

I was never for the IRAQ war, however bush merely did what everyone else stood around and talked about, if the dems had not been so busy trying to pull the rug out from underneath him it woudl have been a successfull war.

c'mon are you guys really missing stealthy's original point. as i understand it
paraphrase....
Dave: Obama will fix our rep and al queda will not have anything to hate us for anymore since bush's actions made them hate us
Stealthy: They hated us and our way of life before bush and obama can't change that (thus the what did bush do to instigate 9-11 question)
Dave: (silence)
cut out the partisan stuff and stealthy's point is simple... al queda will hate us no matter what obama does and bush may have worsened the divide, but he didn't start it.
I think i got it right anyway.
