If a gun is used in a felony and not by the original owner, I think the original owner should be held liable for some kind of 2nd degree felony if they didn't get their registration taken care of properly. Of course getting caught with a gun that isn't registered to you would also be a crime. I think the police should be able to identify the owner of a firearm by the serial number in a national database at the scene, much like how they identify people based on their drivers license number or a car's owner by the VIN/tag.
that's already taken care of. if you are a convicted felon and you get caught with a firearm, it's a one way ticket back to jail. if you get caught carrying a weapon without a permit, it's a one way ticket to jail. currently the police can run the serial number on a weapon and find out who it belongs to. if you bought it through a straw purchase you have to produce a bill of sale.

Bullshit. I own three weapons. The police don't even know they exist. I've owned them for 40 years. They sit in a closet gathering dust. If they're stolen and used in a crime they'd have absolutely no way to trace them unless I report them as stolen. Why? Because I'm not REQUIRED to register them with anyone.
As for the other two statements, I'm not sure they're as categorical as you say they are.

Things have changed a lot in 40 years. Now they have things called Bills of Sale, which are kept on record every time a firearm is sold from an FFL.
However, if I sell one of my guns legally (which only requires that I check the buyer's ID), and it is used in a crime, they will come back to me first. Then it's up to me to prove my case. That's why I always write out a bill of sale when I sell a firearm and have both parties sign it.
Sorry, I don't think teaching a four year old to operate a weapon is an act of great insight.
I started teaching my daughters when they were 8 and 5. Both of my girls know how to disassemble, clean and reassemble every firearm I own. They even know how to remove the grips from the revolvers and clean/work on the action. They understand how each part works and why. If you take the Mystique away from firearms, they become just another tool. Most children want to play with firearms is because in most houses, they are "forbidden fruit" and kept hidden. I encourage my girls to learn everything they can, so they can make knowledge decisions.
When I first started teaching my girls about firearms, I showed them the same thing my Grandpa showed me. I took them outside where I had put a watermelon on a fence post. I didn't tell them to get ready, or give them ear plugs, they really didn't know why we were out there. I was just talking with them about the gun when I suddenly, without any warning, turned and fired on the melon from about 15 feet away...
The look on their faces told me I had their attention.
I looked down at them and said, "It does that every time, to anything, including you." I then walked away and into the house.

Your understanding is blatantly WRONG. I strongly suggest you do some reading on the NFA of 1986 and the AWB of 1994. You're opinion means nothing to me, but at least take the time to research something before you run your mouth. Don't you have some talk shows to watch?
+1 ...wasnt a bottom loading firearm holding more than 10 rounds considered a "machine gun" under DC's gun ban?

Its always possible to put a key on guns. For instance, both my bersa 380 and my Taurus have a key locking system. Lock them and you don't have to worry about them ever going off in a child's hands. It locks the slide, the firing pin, and the trigger, so even if you're out of the house and the kids start playing with it, you only have to worry about how hard you're going to spank them when you find out. The key unlocks and locks the gun in seconds and the key can be kept on you at all times on your usual key ring.
Its not intrusive, and its not adult proof.
As for the whole banning of assault weapons: I have a better idea.
Make a system that is similar to drivers education. Anyone who wishes to purchase a firearm of any kind must undergo a shooter's education class where they will earn the right to carry and purchase guns. Of course, each person will be background checked for previous felonies and upon getting charged with a felony your rights and your guns will be stripped from you. I'm talking the police will go to your house and confiscate all your guns. A better national gun registration system will be put into place where guns are tracked to their owners. Transferring a firearm to a new owner, turning in old/broken guns, and any changes to gun registration (stolen guns) should be done at the local police station or federally licensed gun dealer to avoid shady activities. If a gun is used in a felony and not by the original owner, I think the original owner should be held liable for some kind of 2nd degree felony if they didn't get their registration taken care of properly. Realistic gun control can work and can be non-invasive. A common sense approach like this would prevent new guns from getting into the hands of criminals and would properly educate people on how to use, secure, carry, buy, and sell their guns.
Again, the second amendment was put into place to allow the people to overthrow the government should that government become tyranical. What then would be the point of having the government being able to monitor every fucking thing you own and wear you store it at? Your also missing the big point, IN Denmark for example its Illigal to own a weopon other than a .22 or a shotgun if you can show that you own land and need it for disposing of varmits. However the bad guys still have guns, all the good automatic shit too. Huh, you mean people can buy guns Illigally from other countries still? you dont say?
but in all seriousness Turn in your guns ya fucking twit. Jesus your Idea's are invasive as hell

Thats why it would make sense to have any gun purchase/sale be done at a FFL or at a police station so it can be properly documented and the registration for the new owner is updated. I think this is what the anti-gun guys want the most, and I think its perfectly acceptable.

They're not invasive, they're "commonsense" shit that the anti-gun guys want. With the current laws, its perfectly easy for criminals to buy guys in various ways that appear legal. For instance, in my county, the piece of literature you need to give to the local FFL to purchase a pistol is a poorly photocopied piece of paper with a signature on it. COME ON, seriously? All you need after that is a fake drivers license (I've seen some good ones) and you get a gun THAT DAY (or dozens of guns if you have the $$).
I didn't make any comment about limiting the amount of guns you can own or capping their power or whatever. You can still have your own personal arsenal, it just makes more sense to let the police track you to your guns and vise versa when they are used in some kind of mass murder or something.
The second amendment still works with that in place, you have the right to bear arms and you can still carry. It just makes perfect sense that the authorities should be able to see who owns what guns so that when crimes are committed, the right people get prosecuted. Hopefully it would limit the straw purchases too, which are just plain stupid and totally preventable.

I used to get that same satisfaction. Took my little girls up on the back mesa to teach them to blow up some prairie dogs. At first they started screaming and blubbering and I just told them to suck it up. They have to learn sooner than later what death is and what a gun can do. After they mastered the cleaning and maintenance of their weapons, I had a great idea. The old Chevy's water pump was leaking bad and with my bad back, I couldn't get down in there under the hood. To make a long story short, my little darlings pulled and replaced that water pump with no problem. Replacing the clutch is next. No more freeloading little bums in this household.

I am sure the criminals will be happy to obey all of the new gun control laws that the government can dream up. I mean, they obey all of the ones we currently have, so I am sure they will be happy to obey any new ones that the government would enact.
