Senator Obama was doing press interviews by telephone in a holding room between events. Sometime later as he was getting ready to begin his event, he asked me if I was photographing his shoes. When I said yes, he told me that he had already had them resoled once since he entered the race a year earlier. Providence, R.I., 3/1/2008.
(The photographer works for Time magazine and covered Obama for the magazine during the primaries. Lots of other good behind-the-scenes pics if you're interested.)

What's worse, Sarah Palin's wardrobe, or Obama's Marxist plan to redistribute income, increase taxes, kill jobs, and increase government spending?[/QUOTE]
Palin's wardrobe. With Obama we all get some clothes.

(A) a home mortgage, rent, or utility payment; (B) a clothing purchase;
(C) a noncampaign-related automobile expense;
(D) a country club membership;
(E) a vacation or other noncampaign-related trip;
(F) a household food item;
(G) a tuition payment;
(H) admission to a sporting event, concert, theater, or other form of entertainment not associated with an election campaign; and
(I) dues, fees, and other payments to a health club or recreational facility.
What this really seems to indicate (along with other things we've been seeing) is that everyone in that campaign disrespects the judgements of everyone else. She thinks McCain is a boob, and the McCain people think she's a hick.
Obviously that's just a guess, but I'm remembering how Cindy McCain ordered that she change her hairstyle.
The other thing we know is that Palin doesn't pay her own way, whether it's where she sleeps or who she takes along on trips. This seems to be consistent with her views on the role of government -- paying her expenses.
I'm not cutting Palin any slack here, but this type of poor judgement runs amok in Washington and is exactly the BS that needs to stop. I'd be ticked if I gave to that campaign knowing that I was buying her a new set of pumps to wear for her next rally.
Whether it is legal for her to do that or not, it does not reflect her in a positive light, nor does it show a good use of judgement on her part. They HAD to have known that this sort of thing would be scrutinized, so why open yourself up to these attacks? Dumb...
Hey, if they lose at least she'll have a nice wardrobe

My question is: does she get to keep this stuff when the campaign is over?
Or, since it was bought by the RNC, does it go into some sort of Republican wardrobe closet somewhere? Like a 'loaner closet' of outfits, in case a senator's wife needs an outfit for a party or something!

Nick
The McCain campaign and RNC are saying today that they "always" intended to donate the clothes to charity after the election.
Believe as much of that as you want. There was also several grand spent on clothes for her husband and kids, including baby stuff from a high-end boutique. Is everything going to charity? Who knows.
This gets to another part of all this - another tax problem for Palin. If someone buys or gives you $150,000 of anything, that is a gift (or compensation if it's from your employer) and it is taxable. As a practical matter for the taxes, the RNC might as well written her a check for $150K. It's the same difference. If the RNC says they retained ownership and "loaned" the clothes to Palin - doesn't matter according to some tax lawyers I've read today. If it's donated to charity, she's liable for taxes on the difference between the retail price and the actual value as a donation, which is going to be no more than ten cents on the dollar for used clothing.
Agreed. I'd give her the best 3 and a half minutes of my life.
