McCain's flirtation with 44% and a five point race seems like it might be over. He's back in the 43s and the race is back to a solid six point spread today.
In any event, his half point a day gain never transferred into an electoral college change in his favor. It wasn't ever a game-changer.
That said, Repubs have relied on having a stupid wing for some years now. In my view, they've been to the pander well too many times, but we'll see...
