Once and for all guns should be a state issue not a federal issue.
An AK will do more damage in say down town Manhattan than say down town Spring Field Ohio. Thus why it should be ok to own an AK or a howitzer in Ohio and why it shouldn't be allowed in NYC.
The transport of said guns across borders on the other hand should be a federal issue and is.

Long story short guns are a non issue. It is an attempt, be it a successful attempt, to divert the discussion from what really matter to what does not.
Look I know you love your guns and you sleep with them and give them all kinds of nice names. But with out a stable job and affordable health care the odds of you being able to even afford a gun are next to nil. Then were are you? Unemployed and sick with lots of bullets but no guns to shoot them with.

Nothing in that source.

Concealed carry OK for retired police officers
Obama voted for a bill in the Illinois senate that allowed retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed weapons. If there was any issue on which Obama rarely deviated, it was gun control. He was the most strident candidate when it came to enforcin and expanding gun control laws. So this vote jumped out as inconsistent.

When I queried him about the vote, he said, "I didn't find that [vote] surprising. I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry. This was a narrow exception in an exceptional circumstance where a retired police officer might find himself vulnerable as a consequence of the work he has previously done--and had been trained extensively in the proper use of firearms."

It wasn't until a few weeks later that another theory came forward about the uncharacteristic vote. Obama was battling with his GOP opponent to win the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Okay. So it's a .38? A .32? Um...a twenty-fucking-two? A cap gun?

Racial overtones? Where? Who? What? I love everyone. I'm a liberal and that's what we do best, y'see?

Hayden Lake is a really nice place now, full of California Yuppies. The White Power assholes moved off to Montana a while ago.

My folks had a cabin just up the road in Rathdrum. I have a nephew that lives there still.

THAT IS FOR THE CITY OF CHICAGO.

If you read a little closer, you would see the context of that quote was about gun control in the CITY.

Obama has said numerous times he will not support CCW for the City of Chicago (just as there is no CCW in NY, LA and most other major cities unless you can get a special permit...those places are also NOT Shall Issue areas).

I disagree with him on the idea of CCW in city limits, but you are trying to insist that he is in favor of abolishing CCW entirely, which is just patently false.

Hmmm. Interesting site revision. I had that quote in a file and I personally pulled the info off the CNN page. Someone has changed it.

"You gonna shoot him with a .38?"
(dumb look) ".38... .39...whatever it takes."

"Nice work. Gonna wire it all up with 220?"
(dumb look) "220...221...whatever it takes."

That vote was cast in the Illinois Senate. Can you find a source that states it would apply only to Chicago?

I don't see how something so straight to the point as "I OPPOSE CONCEALED CARRY" can be interpreted any other way. There is no context. I [verb] [noun]. Kinda hard to fuck that up, eh?

Personally, I'd like for my CCW to be valid in the city, seeing as how that's normally where you find a higher concentration of violent crime.

NRA Claim: "Pass Federal Laws Eliminating Your Right-to-Carry"

True: In 2004, while running for the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat he now holds, Obama indeed called for "national legislation" to prevent anyone but law enforcers from carrying concealed firearms. The Chicago Tribune, which queried the candidates on several issues, reported:

Chicago Tribune (Feb. 20 2004): Obama ... backed federal legislation that would ban citizens from carrying weapons, except for law enforcement. He cited Texas as an example of a place where a law allowing people to carry weapons has "malfunctioned" because hundreds of people granted licenses had prior convictions.

"National legislation will prevent other states' flawed concealed-weapons laws from threatening the safety of Illinois residents," Obama said.

More recently, Obama was quoted by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review in an article on April 2, 2008, saying "I am not in favor of concealed weapons. ... I think that creates a potential atmosphere where more innocent people could (get shot during) altercations."
Drink up.

Drink up.
If those quotes and sources are legit, then I am wrong.

Still voting for him, but a little disappointed.

I wouldn't go celebrating:

1) He will be the next president.

2) He may change his stance when in the oval office for a number of reasons.
