You dug up some obscure bullshit after the fact. Has anyone else heard of any of these scandals? These are supposed to be scandals "we've all heard of in the last few years", right?
Phil, you're a hack. VA patients are more satisfied with the care they get than people who are in the for-profit system. You have no fucking room to lecture anyone on ignoring facts that don't fit their preconceptions.

Those stories came primarily from major newspapers. I didn't say that we all had necessarily heard of all of them. I said they had had some; you jumped to a different one from another gov't department (as if it made a difference to the main point of the incompetence of government healthcare) and accused me of having no scandals to refer to. So I provided some, but you I guess have decided they just don't count, for some reason? Good job there.
Y'know, when y'all flooded over here from whatever board, I thought you (BHD) had something to offer. You wrote well, and seemed to be able to offer cogent analysis of political situations. You can handicap a political horse race like nobody's business, but when actual issues come up really you're not much above the completely clueless Schmidt/county/flylooper/jerome crowd of "progressives" bleating for more socialism and less individual liberty, without knowledge or understanding, in the face of both history and ethics. This country is supposed to be about individual rights and liberty. If you don't like that, there are plenty of other options.

With all due respect, perhaps you missed my previous post...
My father has 30 years of service, and has been rated 100% service-connected disabled. He's been dealing with the VA for nearly a quarter century. I've been at his side through most of his ordeal with the VA.
I'm also lucky enough to be acquainted with a number of other disabled veterans, most of whom have also been dealing with the VA for at least as long as my father. They are quite willing to talk about their experiences with the VA.
You should stop reading the propaganda leaflets that were printed up by the VA, and the rigged study they sponsored to show everyone just how "great" they are, and start talking to some vets who've actually dealt with them. It does you no credit to sound like a parrot of a VA led propaganda campaign...

Well, on the other side of things I know a Marine Viet Nam vet who retired as a Master Gunny with a chest full of medals (would have been fewer but he was ordered to let Nixon pin two of them on his chest) and he loves the VA. *shrug*

Well my dad loved the VA. Carried his card with him everywhere because he could get good service in a timely manner.
So it's gotta be something with your family.

Some are lucky enough to not have a problem, but far too many find the VA to be the equivalent of a black hole. There have been a number of documented cases, including major media exposés on the horrific realities at some facilities. Realities that have left vets dead, thanks to the quality of care they've received at a VA facility.
The incompetence and malfeasance isn't just concentrated in the medical section. I've seen with my own two eyes where VA staff have thrown out items, things like TVs, refrigerators and microwaves, that were fully functioning, so they could replace them with new items. Just so they could ensure they'd spend their entire annual budget, so they could get a bigger budget next year. Is this the kind of responsible operation you're advocating?
I've also seen the gross incompetence that has been exhibited by some VA staff in dealing with my father's disability issues. His latest claim has gone all the way to Washington, twice, and has been an ongoing battle since 1993. Even issues as simple as reading an x-ray have seemed to be beyond the capabilities of some who have been assigned to his case. These are absolute facts, not beliefs, as members of the CoVA have just recently found. He also happens to carry his VA card with him everywhere, as that fact means exactly zip.
The fact that the VA has managed to satisfy some does not absolve it of responsibility for those it has mistreated, abused and yes, even killed.
BTW, I appreciate the smart ass remark. You must be a real piece of work. Then again, I suppose I shouldn't have expected anything better...

Aren't you the least bit surprised that Cuba isn't the utopia you thought it was?
