No, he's right. I do. But I grew up in the lower-middle economic strata.

My point is, public school performance (IMO) is based on a matrix of financing, parental/family interaction, community expectations and school leadership.

For example, I would say that Balto COUNTY public schools are quite good and possibly better than the myriad of private "country club" schools in the county, despite having lower financing than Mont. county because it has (in general) similar values for the other components.

I hate it when people try to insinuate that because a person may have money then they all of a sudden have no cred.

I mean what?

None of us here are scraping the bottom of the pudding cup poor. If we were, we wouldn't be bullshitting on the internet during business hours.

So what if McCain can afford lots of houses, so what if Jim lives in a nice neighborhood, so what if we can all afford luxury items such as bikes.

Do we really want our dirt poor running things? lol I can see it now. And yes I live in a poor neighborhood so i can laugh at this mental image.

Playing the who's poor-er game is like playing the who's life is harder game with co-workers.

"I been here since 6 this am and I only got four hours of sleep last night."
"Well I worked the past 9 days in a row."
"Well my wife corn-holed me with a strap on last night."
"Well my dog did that to me."

It's not bad. The tunnel traffic gets worse and worse as the days go by.

I don't rely on it, but sometimes I need to use it and it's a nightmare. Backups are starting to form more frequently at non-rush hour times of day and on non-business days. I can't see how they are going to fix this problem. The road work involved will cause traffic problems of epic proportions. It's going to be a freakin mess.

Other than that it's cool. I like being near richmond, where my old lady is in school, and I like VA beach a lot. I'm close enough that I can call a hotel around 5pm and scoop an unbooked room for a night on the cheap and have a lil mini-vacation with the honey. That's fun.

I could use a few more twisty roads, but south of the James offers some decent stuff, as well as north of the York. And the mountains aren't too terribly far, but to hit them would mean a massive day trip, so it's not an every weekend thing.

A lot of people bitch and moan about the area, and yeah there are other places I'd like to be, but I've got my routine, my crew, my hobbies, and all is well for now.
