I guess the GOP has one this battle.
Three days after Obama gives an amazing speech at the convention, the GOP has completely stolen the spotlight. Sarah Palin has captivated the media.
She is showing surprising appeal, although it is unclear it will sway voters.
So far, I'd say the GOP has accomplished what it wanted--found a media darling to compete with Obama for headlines.
Hell, even BHD is posting positive threads about her.
If McCain wins this Fall, at least there'll be one positive outcome:
We'll all get to see Jim's head explode.

And that's exactly what I said. There are already like 4 threads on her in this forum alone. I'd pay to see Jim's head explode, maybe $5 casino dollars.

I totally agree with Mr. Whippy on this one. Very, very crafty, that old McCain. It seems that once again, the GOP is not as dumb as the left wing makes them out to be. SHe is quickly becoming very popular, and respected. This woman has stood up to her own party...and survived.
Is Jim on the ledge yet?

Um... it's their convention. Are you surprised they're getting all the attention this week? You guys sure are desperate for any kind of good news. The Obvious is happening! It's a WIN! Hurray!

It's a novelty so people are curious. That is the reason that this issue is popular right now. But respected? May be not so much, but we'll see what happens as we learn more about her.

It's only because his choice was so unanticipated -- and ridiculous -- that it's caused such a stir.
This MILF will be causing premature ejaculation in the public -- and the media. The question which remains is whether anybody will actually call her in the morning.

Uuhhh, hello? Are ya'll forgetting that the Democrats just had a whole week of solid coverage on their convention? 38 MILLION viewers watching 80,000 people packed in a stadium cheering for Obama/Biden. Plus the invaluable positive results for the party due to the great speeches by both Michelle and Hillary... I'd say it was a pretty good week for the Dems.
McCan't can have a short weekend of talking heads gushing over his beauty queen any day. That might be all he's gonna get:
Hurricane Gustav and the Republican Convention

For Shock Factor, McCain delivered a 10. It is now pretty much a wait and see how Mr and Mrs Fundamentalist rationalize their newly delivered beauty queen. Thin resume or not, she only needs to stay on a Guns and Abortion talking-point to stir up good old Gopper's stay bys: fear and disgust.

Oh yes they are.
If McCan't picked her just to get a couple days media attention and draw it away from Obama, that's pretty fucking dumb.
We'll see by mid-September how well Palin stands up to scrutiny. My guess is the negative coverage on her as her checkered past comes out will show exactly how dumb this desperate, short-sighted FAIL really is.
Another great judgment call by the 'crafty old McCain'...

"...a campaign that has been charged with being too naïve to manage rogue state dictators can have a bit of fun with the idea that a one-time Miss Congeniality could effectively face down Vladimir Putin..."
and
"...surely McCain recognizes that Palin may have to fill his shoes someday. By choosing her anyway, he has demonstrated hubris well beyond anything Obama has displayed on his most arrogant day: a belief that he can master unforeseen circumstances, physical and otherwise, that are well beyond his control. This is insulting and dangerous and suggests that McCain may want to think twice before accusing Obama of putting his personal ambition ahead of the national interest."--CBS news "An Astonishingly Arrogant VP Selection"
I wonder just how much water the "Which candidate you'd rather have a beer with" rationale for picking a pres ticket will go this year? The repubs seem to think that sort of vacuous state of mind has enough mileage left to see them through...only time will tell.

This can be argued either way.
Obama's checkered past, way outweighs Palin's in my mind. There is no way he sat in Wright's church for 20 years and didn't by into SOME of his bullshit, Wright married him.
Palin is Governor of a state smaller then a couple school districts I attended, Obama was a community organizer and Councilman before he was a senator. Neither has any particular big-league Executive experience
Palin is more of a rags to riches story, and there are a LOT of people like me who look at "lack of experience in Washington as a GOOD thing" Washington insiders like the Clintons, McCain and a very long and not so distinguished list of others ARE the problem.
I'm not Republican or Democrat. My main beef with Obama is that I don't agree with many of his policies. Particularly since after being military for a decade I know without a doubt from everything I've seen that we need to make a smaller government and get them out of our everyday lives. The government acts for the sake of the government, not for the country or the citizens it is supposed to serve.

Swaying voters is the key, he coulda done what you said by picking Miss Piggy.
They're gonna try and cast Palin as "Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington" and convince the voters that the Vice President is gonna "change" things. With one move they've tried to usurp Obama's "change" message and defeated their own argument that Obama shouldn't be elected due to inexperience/unqualified.
Oughta be interesting to watch but ultimately I believe (As previously stated by BHD), that Palin was selected to solidify McCain's base in the Christian Right. But that won't appear in the campaign ads.
