Indeed. These mooks will find anything to bitch about.

Find me someone who claims to be a Christian that doesn't pray that they be an instrument of God's will, and I'll show you someone that isn't paying attention to their faith.

What it means is simply that you are asking for judgment, compassion, and foresight. You aren't asking God to tell you to turn left at the next intersection or invade another country. You are asking for help in making the right choice, but it is still your problem to make the right choice. It is a far cry from dumb'ya's occasional insistence that God tells him specifically what to do directly.
George Bush, Andrea Yates, the crusades, do you really need me ton continue?
They were all doing gods will.

There is a level of humility necessary, and dumb'ya et al don't have it. They have perverted the whole God's will idea and twisted it into thinking whatever they do is God's will. To be a practicing Christian, a real one and not some smarmy fake like so many who claim to be Christians, you have to understand you will never truly know if you are doing the right thing or not. You have to keep your focus on doing your best in all circumstances and never assuming whatever you do IS God's will. dumb'ya makes the leap to hubris and somehow thinks whatever he does is the right thing just because he is doing it. Obama has an ego and flaws, but that's not one of them.
