Obama seeks to win the presidential race of 08
Recent threads and news articles have compelled me to initiate this thread in an effort to enlighten a number of posters on this board.
Obama is actually seeking to win the presidential election coming in November. To do this he believes it will be necessary to convince more than 1/2 of the voters to vote for him. As opposed to simply gathering the votes of the far left.
Therefore he will actually portray himself to be a moderate. A reasonable man. This isn't necessarily bad.

Actually, he can get more than 1/2 of the voters to vote for him and still lose.
Ask Al Gore.

Me neither. I need actions, talk is cheap. All his actions point in the same direction and actions are much harder to spin then words. I don't need a fantastic and charasmatic orator, I need someone who knows the right decision and is tough enough to make it. I'd rather a goof ball who stutters with a moderate understanding of economic policy and clear plans and strategies to implement them than a great speaker full of hope, aka $hit as far as I'm concerned.

Dudes, the GOP tide is receding, hastened by the corruption (both fiscal and moral) of Republicans in Congress and by the idiot who's occupied the WH for the past 7 years.
So get over it.
Your consolation should be that the situation's gotten so bad that the next President doubtless will be presiding over a recession, or worse, and will have little choice but to cut programs and raise taxes. Which will allow your party to run a candidate in 2012 as a "tax-cutter." Yay!

Well, go to your room. Close the door and....well, just get a newspaper. Might help.

We're well aware of that. However the idea that you've internalized hopelessness so completely is new. And kind of sad.

Portraying yourself as a moderate to win the race. That is a noble thing to do to win a race, if your wanting him to win.

He is not moderate. He thinks you are stupid enough to believe this little act. Some of you apparently are.

Gore didn't get > 50% of the votes. No matter how you read Florida. Not even with every hanging chad and ambiguous vote.
That said, I concede your point - he did win the popular vote. But he didn't have >50%.

Sooooo, you're saying Obama is a two faced, double crossing, liar?
And don't even try to put it back on the other party. That's the problem with politics these days, everyone is so damn partisan that they can't see the crap being fed to them. I don't think republicans are the greatest, but to be honest, I'm not real impressed at the democrats choices.
Policitians are like the cheap, crappy, slimy used-car lots. When you have a problem with the crappy car you bought from one lot, its only going to be worse when you go to a different lot and trade it in.

He is far more moderate than he is being portrayed by the right. Just as McCain is much more conservative than the right thinks he is. Neither conforms to current wingnut thinking completely, therefore neither qualifies as a good candidate. I voted for McCain in the 2000 primary. I would have been happy to see him president in 2000, in spite of his almost pure conservative credentials. He is a real conservative, not a phony like most of the post Reagan types who spend huge amounts of money and go for repressive internal controls when they can.
Obama is a centerist with more libertarian leanings than most of the so-called conservatives who have been waving their opinions around as truth for the last 20 years or so. He is to the left of Bill Clinton, but Bill Clinton isn't exactly a leftist. Obama has moved his positions around, I will grant you that. So has McCain. I would argue that Obama is generally consistent, the exception being trade policy. He seems able to learn and change his mind, unlike the current disaster who would still be attaching leaches to people when they were sick if he were a doctor.
Being rigid is a good way to shatter, and having a rigid president is a good way to break the country.
