Another cowardly defeatist speaks out
Maj. Gen. Antonio M. Taguba hates america: he thinks we done wrong at gitmo.
From U.S. Army report on prisoner abuse - Nightly News with Brian Williams - MSNBC.com
I know it's long and full of big words, but those of you who believe that torture at gitmo was the work 0f a few bad apples need to read this.

I think it's more likely that our gitmo/torture boosters are finally realizing the moral bankruptcy of their position.
They have wisely decided to STFU.

Taguba was the officer that did the original Abu Graihb investigation. He was promptly showed the gate for his efforts.
He is also the first general officer to come right out and call Bush a war criminal.

Linkies?
You piqued my interest.

Edited to add: I just checked out Wikipedia. Interesting. I've either forgotten or didn't know about the Taguba Report.

Here's the entire Taquba Report. I doubt if any of the believers will read it, but there it is for anyone.

If you're into all that, where should we house the people we capture?
Also, check with the people who run such destination and see if they agree.

So, tell me, SX, just exactly what is an "Enemy Combatant", and how does one differ from an enemy soldier, or a criminal? How do you determine that someone fits the description? POW's go to detention camps and are treated according to the Geneva Conventions. Criminals go to jail, and are treated according to the civil/criminal codes established in this country. Where's this middle ground that lets a place like the GITMO camp and the "extraordinary rendition" centers exist, and how does anyone know who fits it? Is it like art? "I don't know nuthin' about art, but I know it when I see it!"

They don't not fall under the Geneva Convention. These people neither fight for a national government nor wear a uniform. Removing them from the definition of "regular forces" that the document protects.

Then they're armed criminals. That means they should be arrested, tried, and, if possible, convicted for the crimes they've committed, after full investigation. Not held incommunicado for years in isolation, with no charges, no access to the evidence against them, etc., as they have been.
The Bushco team's "legal' definitions are a complete cop out attempt to make their activities legal. They have no basis in precedent, or constitutional law, and are made up of whole cloth from thin air.
