Meh. David Brooks has been leading the apologista lately. He didn't stick with dumb'ya all the way through like Charles Krauthammer (one of my favorite neocon names, by the way), but he seems to have jumped back on the bandwagon lately.

I guess he can't see the obvious, can he? The surge is working less than the fact that the Iraqis are getting tired of killing each other, neighborhoods are mostly ethnically clensed now, and we are putting militias on our payroll and buying them off instead of losing pallets of $100 bill so they can buy stuf to shoot at us with.

It is all a matter of perspective and dumb'ya still has his head firmly planted in his behind. David Brooks stuffing his head in the same hole is unfortunate, but it is his choice.

Some questions:

So...we're still spending 2 Billion a week there, right?

And the purpose of the surge was to give the IRaqi govt the time to get their act together, right?

There's still no infrastructure ANYWHERE in the country right? No sewers that work. No running water, no electricity, no functioning oil industry. Right?

Turkish troops are still in Northern Iraq. Right?

Sadr is still not in custody, right?

The "generals" are still describing the current status as tenuous, delicate and such. That we can't leave. Still. Yet. Right?

David Brooks ought to write for The Evening Standard instead of the NYT.

What was the goal of the surge again?

Someone remind me. I'm sure it's a simple fact to which we can admit.

Oh, is this the "the surge is working" bullshit again? Puleeze. How long do we imagine that Shiites are going to take our money not to shoot at us? We're already seeing backsliding.

Glad I didn't waste my time.

Well, I did read it in the NYT.

Oh well.

They only cite the NYT when it slimes republicans.

Not in the news section. You can read similar right wing opinion pieces on every balanced OP-ED page in the country.

You could have read it in the news section, perhaps maybe, as plenty of administration hacks are hanging their hat on the bribes and payoffs plan they're euphemistically calling "the surge." You'd find it in quotes.

Yeah and he neglected to mention the cease-fire imposed by the largest Shiite militia the same month the surge started up.
