Default I support Obama, however....

This needs some 'splain' to me.

From the NYT:

Obama camp closely linked with ethanol
Industry endorsed by candidate has provided some of his top advisers

...blah, blah, blah (it's in the link).

My point here is that he can't get out from under this by just firing some advisors. He needs to directly address this and how it squares with his core message.

And if the NYT turns out to be just a doop of GOP plot, then I guess the print media really is completely dead. They're supposed to be experienced jounalists, not bloggers.

I hope Barack addresses this in the next few days.

The New York Times has never been considered a bastion of conservative ideology...

You still have plenty of time to come around.

To ME, Obama has a LOT of 'splain'in to do.

Consider this ecologically sensitive posting - I recycle

1) Last summer, Obama - then a candidate for president - attended and praised an ethanol plant opening in Iowa. Six months before the caucuses. For a policy he had endorsed throughout his political career.

2) Tom Daschle, former senator from a big corn state, serves on the board of three companies that make ethanol from corn. Daschle is not and has never been a lobbyist, which practically eliminates what he can do in Washington on behalf of these companies. He can give them advice, but he can't talk about what they want with his former colleagues.

3) Obama's lead adviser on energy formerly served on a bipartisan commission with Republican Bob Dole...and Dole has longstanding ties to Archer-Daniels Midland!!!

4) Obama twice in four years flew on ADM jets, paying for them according to the rules of the Senate. Two flights in four years. No evidence of Obama working a deal for them, no allegations of favors, phone calls, amendments or anything else from Obama benefiting ADM. Two flights, four years. And Bob Dole has done a lot of business with them. A lot more.

5) Obama supports ethanol subsidies, even though "some of them" end up in the hands of oil companies - if the oil companies are producing ethanol.

6) Many people have been critical of ethanol subsidies because it benefits large agribusinesses instead of family farmers. (Perhaps because few family farms have ethanol refineries?)

7) Sugar cane is much better than corn for making ethanol, so why are we even using corn, huh?!? But you are severely limited in where cane can grow in the US, it consumes huge amounts of irrigation water in a region that is crippled by drought, it produces fertilizer runoff that does massive damage to wetlands like the Everglades - and if you think ADM has some sleazy, corrupt dealings with the federal government you ain't seen nothing until you get a good look at Big Sugar.

This is what passes for journalism when a backstage political operative feeds a story to a lazy reporter.

I would like to see Obama pushing for celulitic ethanol made from bark, stems, seeds, sawgrass, and all that. Corn is for eatin'.

Addresses what? What's your concern and what gave rise to it? Explain that?

Jee could have fooled me on this one. Looks like the Ethanol industry is trying to get one of their boys on the inside to provide insurance and money for their inferior product.

What happened to free trade again?

My thoughts exactly. When has Obama tackled ANY issue head on? If how he's been running his campaign thus far is any indication, don't expect a straight answer.

As a rule of thumb, I don't expect a straight answer out of any President, or presidential wannabe.

I sorta alluded to it but:
1. IF Obama accepts large amounts of support or staffs advisors based on their connections to bio-ethanol production corps, that would go completely against his core message for this campaign.

2. HOWEVER, if BHD is correct, and this is just a shitty little smear campaign that the NYT was too F'n lazy to suss out, then there should be some sudden unemployment at the NYT editorial staff and a coupla NYT reporters should get the boot too. I personally don't need "Journalism Professionals" acting like a buncha high schoolers on Facebook.
