Big Oil Firms Ready to Sign Agreements With Iraq
"The hell with democracy. Just get the oil!"
If you had doubts this miserable fiasco was about oil and that current US attempts at permanently stationing troops in Iraq isn't about protecting the oil companies there--well, let's just say you're in total denial.
We are now, once again, a colonial power. We have an oil colony in Iraq. Ain't it grand?
Big Oil Firms Ready to Sign Agreements With Iraq
BAGHDAD, June 19 -- Iraq is preparing to award contracts to several Western energy companies to help develop its vast oil resources, allowing them to consolidate their positions in a country that has seemed less threatening in recent months as security has improved.
The two-year, no-bid contracts will be awarded to companies that have been advising the Iraqi Oil Ministry in recent years, said Asim Jihad, a spokesman for the ministry. He said officials expect that U.S.-based Exxon Mobil and Chevron, Royal Dutch Shell, France's Total and British oil company BP will secure the biggest contracts.
"We have had discussions since last year" regarding deals that would formalize the advisory role some of them are already playing, Jihad said. "The discussions have now ended."

That's great news. Now we're finally going to get something out of this.
Oil, jobs, and can help poor people in America by lowering gas prices.
Hooray!
I'm so glad we live in a country where we have the smartest people and the best resources in the industry.

Ah the 7 sisters strike again.
To think it was only yesterday they convinced the CIA to overthrow Iran’s freely elected liberal secular government just so they wouldn't have to pay a 1% export tax.
And gopers like children who have eaten way too much led paint chips will continue to cock their head to the side, give you that glazed deer in the head lights look and ask "Why do day be hating us yo? It be becasue day be hating Jesus?"
I bet right about now Dead Eyes Dick is rubbing his nipples with butter in extacy!
Little baby jesus h bush on the other hand....well...he's off in his room playing X-Box.

I know that you don't like Oil. Probably hate it. And hate anyone who wants it. And especially the businesses that are good at doing things with it.
Frankly there's about 300 million Americans that would like to beat you with a bat.
Just face the fact that you don't want people using oil and keep spouting hateful things to make your point.
You are indeed the typical Bay Area liberal that doesn't have a foot in reality and thinks that demonizing people and industry gets you somewhere.

What makes you think that?
Edit: As it stand we use 56,000 barrels a day as of last year and Iraq produced 2.3 million barrels a day. These numbers pale when you look at Iran's and 4.7 million a day and Suadi Arabia's 10 million a day (roughly). The increase in output may help bring the prices down a little but it'll be years before we see it anyway.
For the most part the oil companies are partnering with the Iraqi state to increase output, there no such thing as a free lunch.
These oil companies are still going to put whatever they get from Iraq on the open commodities market just like always. So crude prices are still going to be driven by world demand and what even lunacy pushed us up over $130 a gallon.
Unless there is some sort of deal moving a couple hundred thousand barrels a day straight to US refineries at a discount price there will be no change.
Let me look something up.

I was being somewhat sarcastic. We do have the best talent and engineering to bring the raw resource to market. That's why so many Americans work in the ME and in other strategic places.
I don't expect prices will drop to where they were. Ever.

Wise expectation. I read one projection that if China's oil consumption continues growing at its current rate in 15 years they will be consuming EVERY drop coming out of the Middle East.
Time to look elsewhere for energy, otherwise we are in for a REALLY rough time.

WWIII will be fought over oil (and maybe water at the same time), and China and India both have many more bodies to sacrifice, as well as governments that are happy to let them die in great numbers, if it will maintain thier ambitions.
