3 responses to the mid-west flooding (what does it tell us?)
I find this interesting and wondered if there was anything we could take from this. The three key figures of interest here all responded differently to the flooding that has been taking place in the mid-west since last week.
Here is the roll call:
President George W. Bush: Was on an overseas visit when the flooding first started to occur. He arrived back this past Sunday and according to Dana was just now being “briefed on the situation.” Keeping in mind that he’s been back since Sunday night, he has a planned trip for tomorrow (Thursday) to see the devastation.
GOP Candidate John McCain: He was out raising money in California at various events. He did issue a press release saying how he has these people in his prayers.
Democratic Candidate Barack Obama: He traveled to the region (Iowa to be exact) and helped fill sandbags to divert some of the flooding. He then organized efforts through his website. He used the list of people registered on his website to get volunteers to assist with efforts – whether it was monetary donations or physical labor.

McCain can't fill sand bags. See, he was a POW for over 5 years and the Viet Cong made sure he can never use his arms again. So...a non starter for me on this. I did note how NBC exploited this and showed Obama with his sleeves rolled up, filling a few bags. Nice job.
Bush? Shit, who cares. Are you actually surprised?

Reagan pulled this stunt first, showed up, rolled up his sleeves, grabbed a shovel and filled about three sandbags. Complete publicity stunt and worked well.
Obama is great at knowing how to milk publicity, a genius in that area actually. lol if only he knew how to do something else.
For those of you thinking 'ohhh he's helping the people" what about the job he has not done for the last year while he was out chasing the presidency?

Obama MAY be sincere, who knows. When you see things like this on tv, you tend to be cynical, saying "yup, another photo op".
But, I will give the man the benefit of the doubt. Good for him.

Glad you're keeping an open mind about it. You did inadvertently bring up another hot topic.
Many Veterans aren't very happy that McCain has a 100% disability rating. Especially current Vets of the Iraq War. But that's a different topic all together.

McCain could do other things to help, if he wanted. It could be as simple as handing out coffee and donuts from a Red Cross station, or just talking with evacuees and showing his sympathy.
He could also put up something on his campaign website encouraging people to donate to the Red Cross, which Obama has had up for over a week.

Well let me start off by sayin im no democrat. But photo op or not, atleast he realises that there are people in need. McCain just sits there with his thumb up his ass and Bush, god don't get me started. But I believe that Obama might be our best bet.

So I noticed, he has not done what he's supposed to at all. Thanks for pointing it out and making my case for me
