Really, to me "conservative" is a legitimate ideology with which I seldom agree. Whereas among "conservatives" (At least here) there is this refusal to recognize another POV.

What's up with that?

There is a default mentality that democrats are the natural state of the government, and the only purpose of having evil republicans is a target to defeat

Maybe it's an educational level thing?
We on the left tend to by nature try to look at things in different lights. To judge the gray.
While our friends on the right tend to live in a very black and white world.
With us or agents us.
God is right you all are wrong.
Guns good gays bad.
It's a more digital look at the world.

Yeah, and look how the "liberal" media has been hammering on Obama for those comments, and the Rev. Wright obssession, while McCain gets away with one gaffe after another. And how they crucified Howard Dean for yelling "yeehaa", thus destroying his campaign. And how they jumped on the war train in the rush to invade Iraq. "Liberal media" my freekin' ass.

The media only cares about one thing... ratings. They'll take any story and sensationalize, exaggerate, and obsess on it for their own purpose... to make money. They don't care about Left or Right, or whether a story is unethical or distasteful... they are news vultures, plain and simple. When they see one side getting too far ahead, they tear into them to 'even things up' so it'll drag on longer.

Why is "liberal" a dirty word? Ask the likes of Karl Rove or Newt Gingrich.

I don't know how much more proof you need. It's kind of like evolution. It's a big question with a lot of big ideas that small minds have a hard time understanding.
Case in point, in 1996 i went skiing in the andies. It was a birthday preasent from my host mother to me. Come to find out last year they had to stop skiing on that glacure because well...it's no longer there. A lack of snow and higher than average temperatures at 16+k ft.
But back on topic, I'll look at the idea that evolution isn't legit. And that global warming isn't happening. I'll look at the data. It just so happens at the moment any way the data appears to indicate that evolution does take place and the atmosphere is warming up.
But I looked! I didn't write it off like the right would have.

Ladies and gentlemen I give you liberal elitism at it's finest! "Educational level"?

Subtly implying that conservatives are know nothing hicks clinging to "guns and religion" as Barack (We live in the greatest country on earth and I hope you'll join me in changing it) Obama said.

Conservatism means unleashing the power of the individual. Liberalism is believing that individuals ae too stupid to know or do what is best and that only the "progressive" thinkers know what is best and we're going to by God (although we don't believe in him) make the rest of you do it - usually by one arm of the government or the other.

I've lived in the north and the south as a child.
When I moved from the south to the north my parents had to hire a tutor to help me catch up. The southern elementary school was a solid year behind that of the northern schools. My grades also droped from a A+ to a C.
As a liberal I don't care who you do or what you do, just don't let what you do and who you do effect my life and my health nor that of my familly.
While conservatives need to know what you do and who you do no matter if it effects their lives nor that of their family.
Also as a liberal I like to think that I'm open to ideas and that I can play in the relm of thought and of theory and of the what if's and the how all the time keeping track of the tangable.
As a conservative no one is allowed to ask what if or how!
Now, in modern day america if you ask me many of the self declared liberals are actually conservatives and many of the self declared conservatives are actually very liberal.
So maybe it's all an exercise of preception that has been hijacked by those who whish to have more power.

I'm perfectly happy to wear the liberal label. Its the most patriotic and most American political philosophy.
