Robert Downey Jr. walked a mile in someone else's shoes
very interesting

“I have a really interesting political point of view, and it’s not always something I say too loud at dinner tables here, but you can’t go from a $2,000-a-night suite at La Mirage to a penitentiary and really understand it and come out a liberal. You can’t. I wouldn’t wish that experience on anyone else, but it was very, very, very educational for me and has informed my proclivities and politics every since.”

Very oblique. What's he trying to say? Did he join the Aryan Brotherhood?

That's kinda funny coming from Downey. If it wasn't for the liberal attitude of the industry he works in, his career would have permanently cratered after no more than is second trip to jail. How many repeat losers get the chance to go back into their own fields and make millions of dollars again? Unless you're an actor or a musician, the answer is zero. He should be hitting his knees every night (in the "nice house with the nice family supported by an increasingly nice career") thanking God he works for a bunch of liberals.

Kinda blows your old theory about felons being overwhelmingly liberal, doesn't it?

Without his struggle with substance abuse he would have never walked these roads.
But go ahead and smear him, most people are reading and not commenting

Edit: Let me rephrase ~ If what liberal actors have to say is not worth the air it took for them to form syllables I see no reason it would be any different for one that's no liberal. There are actors that are conservative without having gone to prison. *shrug*

I think the point he's making is that life takes on different perspectives when you leave the ivory tower.
Bono is another example. I love the guy for his music but his perspectives were formed while snorting pure cocaine off a crystal platter. He's never left the tower.

Yeah, growing up in Ireland in the late seventies was a picnic, I'm sure.

And the stupid never stops.
Bono has been a born-again Christian since he was a teenager. He's the absolute worst example you could have picked because he's never gotten into the sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle. He never did the hard drugs because he watched it destroy friends in Dublin when he was young.
His perspectives might have been formed by volunteering for two months as an aid worker in Ethiopia after Live Aid in 1985. That was before The Joshua Tree made U2 hugely famous. As a rule, people who snort coke off of crystal platters don't spend two months in African refugee camps because it's kinda hard to find a hook up.
The "tower" implies someone who has no first hand experiences with a given subject, so they form their opinions entirely off of what they are fed by others.
Like, say, you.

why are we so infatuated with celebrities. The only time I care about them is when I go to see a movie, much like the only time I care about a barista is the three minutes it takes to make my coffee at fivebucks
That being said, the rare actor that can effectively communicate a political view can be good reading material, and I think this guy is down to earth. He has a good head on his shoulders like Will Smith, someone from the other end of the lifestyle forum. It's all the turds in the middle that drive me nuts.

Most of us are not, but the TV is filled with the third-party sucking-the-star-money tit to a point that you cannot watch your favorite shows without sound bites about all the things you're supposed to care about.
I had the day off yesterday and learned I'm supposed to be upset and accepting the apology for a teenager having her picture taken, while I'm supposed to not notice the star-maker machinery that's likely to grind yet another young woman into dust.
