"But conservative outlets aren’t so ready to let her off the hook...."
"...The article then says Michelle Obama’s comments suggest
“the pseudo-messianic nature of the Obama candidacy is very much
a part of the way the Obamas themselves are feeling.”
I dont know, something about 'telling a tree by its fruit'?
Speaking in Milwaukee, Wis., on Monday, she said, “People in this country are ready for change and hungry for a different kind of politics and … for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback.”
Foolish thing to say for sure. It is virtually impossible for even the most seasoned politicians not to get tripped up by their words. That's why it is especially dangerous to let others speak on your behalf.
If I were to guess as to her intent, I would say that she is referring to the fact that "hope" hasn't been a legitimate theme since the days of Martin Luther King, Jr. Not just for blacks, but for people of all socio-economic backgrounds. The likes of Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton have been poor torch bearers of this message.
Although many will zero in on the portion of her statement that refers to being "proud of her country for the first time in her adult life", I believe they will be misinterpreting the actual intent which is a message about hope.

who cares? she said it, not the presidential candidate ... remember when the republicans were trying to slow down bill clinton by bringing up hillary's actions/statements? that worked out extremely well, it only took two terms to get over it ...

The important thing about what she said, is that as 1st lady, she has certain obligations to represent the White House {And Americans} when dignitaries and special interest groups visit. Also, she will most likely be put in charge of "special projects", like every other President has done with their wives.
My point is: How can she represent "All the people" if this is the "first time in my adult life I am proud of my country." ???????

Because what she said is, "for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback."
It's not fair to discuss this by only referring to the first half of her statement. This question is, how do you feel about her statement about hope? I think it's silly. But I don't believe that she is otherwise not proud of our country.

O.K. So, she WASN"T proud of her country because there was "no hope" in the past?
And what "HOPE" is she refering to?

Silly Rugby paying attention to retarded American politics. Hehe.
I've officially given up on the Presidential race. I don't care anymore because all that's left suck ass, and it doesn't really matter who we (citizens) vote for, anyway.
I'm back to focusing on local elections, and getting a certain pitiful city council member out of his seat. At least Libertarians have a chance at this level.
