I don't get it. Saddam was posturing, making it look like he had weapons. Bush knew better and invaded anyway. Is this supposed to validate his decision to twist [mis]information and carry out a plan that was formed before he took office?
The biggest problem is in Washington, not Iraq.
I was being specific to problems in Iraq. The problems in Washington are a whole different animal.

Maybe so, what is clear is the concept of us feeling the concequences. As far as the terrorists wining...only possible because of our percieved weeknesses.

They win every time I take my shoes off at the airport. Under Bush's stewardship, we've given them a victory greater than what they could ever have imagined.

I'm sure the Soviet Union made it possible because of their perceived weakness circa 1989.
Forget about going bankrupt over a war and their currency losing all value.

Jim and reasonable people do agree that GWBush sucks. Where we differ is that Jim thinks the Democratic Party is any better.

That may be funny to you, but to people who value liberty and have spines, the losses are real and significant.

Yes, removing shoes at the airport. The whole process of being inspected in detail, by the government, subjected to a whole raft of senseless regulations that do not ensure safety in any way, and rendered personally defenseless if anything bad were to happen, in order to travel anywhere of significant distance. And that's if you're lucky; if you have a name similar to someone on the massive poorly maintained inaccurate "no-fly list", then you're just screwed.
Going along with government spying on people, seizing records, monitoring your bank accounts and money habits, pushing a national ID, clamping down on gun rights, accumulating massive government debt that will have to be paid off somehow, devaluating our money, etc. etc. -- yeah. We're losing our freedoms.

Save the rest of your rant, I was asking about the shoes.
The shoes are a symptom and a symbol of the fear and the ineffective government response to the terrorism. The terrorists win every time our liberty is in any way reduced in response to the terrorism. I'm not given to agreeing with Jim very often, but he's spot on in this one.

I get that you are trying very hard to find meaning in the failed policies of your guy, but there really is no shiny side.
As far as the shoes go, if you are proud of having every American cower like a frightened bunny (while pretending to be an Eagle) because George Bush found it expedient to take his eye off the ball, then I really don't see how you can expect to be taken seriously.
