I certainly can't post a link to my own speculation, unless you want me to blog it and send you the url....

I never stated it was fact, hence no link is required.

Well, you said it with such conviction, I thought there was something that you were privy too.

Yep. More propoganda by Bush. The good people of Iran would never do such a thing.

No, just that this is exactly the kind of completely NOT verifyable event that the current admin would manipulate to stir anti-Iran sentiment.

Its absolutely no secret that our current admin has a raging hard on to bomb Iran. After the recent report on Iran's nuclear program (or lack thereof) the bush cult was completely adamant that we should ignore our best intel and consider them a threat anyway.

So, they are basically saying that we should abandon reason, abandon what we know to the best of our ability to be true, and sacrifice our free will to the people in charge.

Of course, they know what is best, and its our place to bleet bleet for our master when he calls.

The world has been shaped by two forces from the beginning of time:

Those that want to inform and empower people.

Those than want to control people, and keep them in the dark, reliant on those in power.

My condemnation of our current administration is that they have embraced the latter philosophy like no other administration in American history, and yet so many people in this country thank them for it.

Or...did Iran realize that Americans would think this is all a hoax so they did it anyway since they knew they could get away with it? Or did the US think that someone like me would think that way so the government set it all up anyway. ZOMG!!!! Do you conspiracy theorists have nothing better to do than to sit around and try to blame the government for everything? Don't bother answering that: it's a rhetorical question. I know that you are just going to say I'm a "sheep" because I don't vehemently question everything the US government says (because god knows if it came from a FOREIGN government, it MUST be true).

The leader of the Iran is on a power trip and has threatened our ally with annihilation. Yet people still believe his nuclear program is just to make a better life for his people. Don't be so nieve. I wonder what you people are going to say when Israel tires of Iran brings the country to their knees...

By your logic and standard of ethics in the above post, you do realize that you have also condemned this government for the same reasons?

Do I need to remind you that the US government is/was/has:

1) The first government to drop a nuclear bomb on a civilian target....in fact, they dropped two.

2) Recently (1980s) caught financing BOTH sides of a war? With...drumroll...IRAN as one of the sides we supported?

3) Invaded the SOVERIGN NATION of iraq with no just cause at all, lying to its own people in the process? People who are now in a MASSIVE debt, and most of that money is now in the hands of the war profiteers who just happened to be friends or members of the current administration?

Iran has done NOTHING that we haven't also done.

Nothing.

If it happens again, the speed boats should be destroyed. And the whole incident denied. That will send the correct message to Iran.

Tell that to the sailors who were killed on the USS Cole. Oh wait.......

Yeah, what piddly damage could one or five speed boats possibly cause to a destroyer?

In a land where most people are willing to blow themselves up to make their point (and many do), it's amazing people don't see the danger here.

Quote:

I could go on and on about how the the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki SAVED lives. The biggest reason would be the Bushido Code. The Japanese were fanatical about their emperor, who they saw as a God on Earth and were prepared to do ANYTHING to protect him. Other provisions of the code include NEVER SURRENDER. The Japanese were prepared to fight to the last man. Secondly, taking mainland Japan would require an army of vast numbers. Huge casualties are a guarantee. How many tens of thousands of Allied casualties were there taking Okinawa? Mainland Japan is over 300 times bigger. Besides, nobody could have predicted the devastation and lasting effects the atomic bomb would inflict. If there was more time perhaps, but that was a luxury we did not have (let alone the materials to do it). The only reason Japan surrendered was because they thought we had more nukes to use. When it comes down to it, drastic measures had to be taken. An unconditional surrender was the only option. The lack of an unconditional surrender after World War I was one of the big reasons for World War II. And let's not forget all the horrendous crimes Japan committed against every other country's civilians.

There is a greater good. Some people believe in it while others think one is too many to sacrifice.

When you give a nuke to someone like the president of iran, who has promised to destroy another country, you can count on him using one if he gets his hands on it. If you think that iran is going to act reasonably, you are being naive. Every other nuclear power is responsible enough and has demonstrated enough restraint to be allowed to have nuclear weapons.
