Well, rather than starting another thread, I will add to this thread with the following story.
This takes place in Sudan. I don't know if Sudan is technically the Middle East or Africa, but Sudan is a Muslim country that follows Islamic Sharia law.
A British teacher is facing 40 lashes and prison time, for allowing her students (children) to choose the name of their class Teddy bear. The children chose the name "Mohammed", most likely because they were raised Muslim and lets face it...that is probably the name they have heard more than any other name in their lives so far.
The woman has been arrested and faces a trial for violating Sharia laws that forbid anyone to "mock" the Koran or its prophet.
I am absolutely fucking astonished that they are prosecuting this woman for what can only be fairly classified as a misunderstanding with NO intended mockery or disrespect.
At the beginning of her trial: About 600 Islamic demonstrators piled out of mosques, chanting: "By soul, by blood, I will fight for the Prophet Mohammed." Some of the protesters demanded the teacher's execution, according to The Associated Press.
The agency reports that some chanted: "No tolerance: Execution," and "Kill her, kill her by firing squad."
Sudan protesters: Execute teacher - CNN.com
So, not only do these Sudanese people not know their own law (her offense is not a capital offense) but this is exactly the kind of insane barbarism that seems to be permeating all of Islamic culture (at least the part we are exposed to here in the US).
Wow.

They've spared her the 40 lashes, and just sentenced her to 15 days in jail, followed by expulsion. Ah, merciful little devils, aren't they???
Oh well, Bill C showed them how it's done, way back when he stuffed a cruise-missile up their baby formula factory....

Actually....not giving her the 40 lashes IS merciful (in a backwards kind of way).
Lashing is no fucking joke.
Most people pass out after a few and have to be woken up with smelling salts every few lashes for them to finish.

Uh yeah, I know.... It was sarcasm. They figure they've made an incredibly noble gesture. Meanwhile, the western world recognizes yet another example of a stone-age society, and it's so-called religious principles. If one would dare argue that they really have any....
....and don't blame me if one of the crazy bastards comes after you for having the beer!!!

Yeah, I'm "1 for the death penalty", but I'd like to see two of 'em get it.
These kind of "people" (I use the term very loosely) really get under my skin. To do such unspeakable things, to such a defenseless little girl. In my book, such vermin are undeserving of any mercy whatsoever....
I took part in the search for another little girl here locally, years ago, within a mile of where I lived in fact. The case received national media attention, and watching the coverage near the end, I just had this feeling that I knew the mother had done it. She'd had a cast on her forearm, and one evening I noticed that the cast was gone. I thought, "Why, in the midst of all this, would she take the time to go have the cast removed?". Apparently, at least one of the detectives had the same thought.
It turned out that her daughter had walked in on her having sex with the neighbor, and in a fit of rage she struck her in the head, fracturing her skull with the cast. She then threatened the neighbor with telling the police that he had done it, in order to get him to dispose of the little girl's body. Her little body was found wedged beneath scrap metal, under water, in the basement of an abandoned industrial building. Even today, you can pass by the area where the building was, and has since been replaced with a new commercial development, and find teddy bears and flowers that people have left.
Now, we're dealing with the infamous case of the mother who microwaved her baby!!! The number of cases like these, that we've had around this area, have completely obliterated any shred of belief I've ever had about the "humanity" of the so-called "human race".
Today, I feel more for damn near anything else that breathes. As I see it, we're the least endangered species on the face of the Earth, so what the hell do I care....
Sad, but true.

Yeah, a large part of my own personal spirituality is trying to understand how the fuck we can be so horrible to each other.
And why, if there really is some god/creator/whatever....why things were created this way.

I've given up on that debate. I'm absolutely dedicated to the belief that there is no god. Because, if we were "created in his image", he couldn't possibly be as benevolent as he's supposed to be. The last "being" I'd want to spend eternity with is someone, or something, even remotely akin to "humanity".
Even if I'm wrong, I figure I still can't be that bad off. If he really is "all that", I'd say he'd be more concerned about what kind of person I am, rather than whose hand (or dare I say ass!) that someone else spent their time kissing while being a complete SOB....

I'll tell you what's wrong with the middle east. They can't even jack off without chaffing their dick from all of the sand every where. How would you feel if you had to jack off with sand paper glued to your palm. Have some compassion.
