Apparently this legal concept is restricted to criminal cases. I don't recall ever hearing about filing a suit against one's self in a civil suit, not do I know how you would decide if you won or lost.

You would decide that you lost, when you found that whatever settlement you paid yourself would mostly go to the lawyers, leaving you with about a third of your own money. ;)

Civil suits are not criminal cases. Civil suits are not brought by the state, county, etc. against a citizen. They are between private parties. Neither party is responsible for the interpretation or enforcement and administration of the law. That is where the difference lies. I don't ever recall bringing up a civil case. You did. Now run along and try to muddy the waters of another thread.

Thanks for sharing with me what I said! I probably would never have noticed.

Civil suits are not brought by the state? Then what exactly is civil forfeiture, or the civil suits filed in tobacco and drug cases, etc., or eminent domain?

The water's pretty muddy already.
